I'm going to throw out my stash and workbench, sell the reference library and go do something easy. Like start a punkrock band. This level of detail in 1/1000..............anyone have some prozac left they may want to part with? Pieter Cornelissen Delft, The Netherlands ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 2) From: John Philip Downing Subject: Re: 1:200 Aeronaut Bismarck >> I was wondering if anyone could tell me about the 1:200 Bismarck from Aeronaut? What is the quality of the kit, does it have enough detail (or can it be easily modified)? Also, I was wondering if the detail package (that you pay extra for), does it contain enough accesories to make this old model a fairly detailed Bismarck? All the pictures I've seen of this kit are small and and not in focus, makes me wonder what this thing actually looks like up close. << I have this kit, which I bought used a few years ago. It is a mixture of plastic, wood and brass. Not detailed, but large and impressive. I plan to but it next to the 1/200 Yamato and the 1/192 Sterling Missouri. It is not as good as the Yamato, but better than the Missouri. There are not a lot of battleship kits available in this scale. The hull is a very thick vacuform, the deck is wood, the superstructure must be cut from plywood (get a band saw). The turrets are wood with brass barrels. The airplane (1) is plastic. It can be made as detailed as you like, but you will have to do the work. I have the hull and deck together, and it is very solid. John Downing ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 3) From: Scott Weeks Subject: Arizona Hello, I don't know whether the USS still applies, however, Arizona is "stricken" and out of commission (Decommission date 12/29/1941). According to the Naval Vessel Registry, http://www.nvr.navy.mil, "SHE WAS PLACED IN "ORDINARY" ON 12/29/1942 AND STRICKEN ON 12/1/1942. ON 5/30/1962, THE NATIONAL PARKS SERVICE ACQUIRED CUSTODY OF THE SHIP FOR PUBLIC DISPLAYING, HOWEVER, THE US NAVY RETAINS TITLE." Ink jets use aqueous inks that bead up on decal paper blanks and in any case are not UV light fast. Anyway saw this blurp on the Olympus P-10 printer "It's a chain reaction: first came the digital cams, now come specialized photo-only printers like the P-10. It uses dye sublimation to produce a photo-lab-quality print in just 44 seconds. olympus.com ($200)" TIME CDN ed.
