Would WEm be prepared to master and mould in thier PRO700 resin range a 4.7in gun housing seen on the T -Zs etc? PLEEZE! Regards, Chris Drage ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 4) From: "Fox, John" Subject: paint question I am in the process of building the US ships (5) which took part in Unitas XXV in 1984. I plan to mount each waterline ship to a base which can stand alone, but can also be placed together like a puzzle to display the ships in formation. My question is, I've already completed my Spruance class DD with Floquil Marine paints (done a while back). I would like to purchase the WEM Colourcoats paints to finish the other models. Will my Spruance look odd in comparison to the others (which include the Iowa, an LST, FFG and DDG?) I've read that the Floquil paints were not very accurate. Is there that much difference between the two brands? Thanks for your help. I quickly had a look at the usual suspects, but nothing seemed to jump out as appropriate. Anything commercial out there? << GMM makes a set of 1/600 merchant ship PE meant for the Airfix liners, WEM makes generic railings and IIRC so does Tom's. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 6) From: raisingirl@mindspring.com Subject: Re: Airfix liner photoetch hello all -- John asked: >> I'm looking for some PE suitable for the Airfix 1/600 "liner" series (specifically RMS Mauretania). I quickly had a look at the usual suspects, but nothing seemed to jump out as appropriate. Anything commercial out there? << At the risk of pre-empting John and Caroline, White Ensign Models has some 1:600 photoetch available in various configurations: http://www.whiteensignmodels.com/brochure/1_600_photo-etch1.htm Among them is a set designed for the Revell Queen Mary and the Airfix Queen Elizabeth (which ol' Jodie needs to get off her duff and order a couple sets of those, maybe more since all those parts look to have multiple applications!). I can't find any sets designed for the Mauretania kit, but there's some generic stuff that could be adapted. Maybe John and Caroline know more than I do (well, of course they would). :) Also, Gold Medal Models offers a 1:600 Merchant Ship set intended for the Queens, the Titanic, the Airfix liners, etc., etc.: http://www.goldmm.com/ships/gmsamede.htm I know this because I had a set for a seriously re-worked Revell s/s United States that I never finished. :) Have fun! jodie ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 7) From: Randy Ward Subject: Re: Airfix 1/600 Liner PE Hi, John. Check out Tom's Modelworks #6012 ($11.00) or Gold Medal Models #600-2 ($15.00). 'Should have most everything you need to detail a 1/600 Mauretania or Lusitania, including the ratlines. I'm getting ready to start my Mauri, then later to the 1/350 Lusi, then use the larger Lusi as a guide to convert a second 1/600 Mauti to a Lusi. Did that come through clearly? 'Hope so. Good luck! Randy ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 8) From: "Michael D'Silva" Subject: Re: Airfix 1:600 Scale PE Hi John, For super-detailing the Airfix 1:600 RMS Mauretania, the Gold Medal Models 1:600 Merchant Ship Fittings PE set is probably the most appropriate. This set was originally designed by Loren Perry (GMM) with the Titanic and Lusitania in mind. Therefore, its a perfect match for the Mauretania as well. This set is available from various suppliers including Sandle Hobbies, WEM, Pacific Front Hobbies, and Gold Medal Models. Pletscher) Subject: Two Kirov Kits I have both, the Dragon kit, and the Trumpeter kit of Kirov. Both are loking fine at first glance, but neither is really correct, if you have a closer look. The Dragon kit is a bit smaller than the Trumpeter kit which measures out correctly in 1/700 scale. Both kits have their errors. Generally, proportions and shape of the superstructure are looking correct with the Dragon kit, while the Trumpeter kit has some considerable faults. However, the shape of the hull is looking more correct with the Trumpeter kit. On the other hand, detailing is usually better and more correct with the Trumpeter kit. Also, Trumpeter has a larger decal sheet. So it is hard to decide, which kit is better. If you want to build a really accurate model, you will have to mix parts of both kits Falk Pletscher ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- TRADERS, ANNOUNCEMENTS & NOTICEBOARD ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 1) From: Mike C Subject: New Corsair Armada releases I'm happy to announce that my 1/700 USS Vireo ($20) and 1/350 5"/38 Guns ($12) for the Tamiya Fletcher have finally been shipped to your favorite distributor.
