I think it best for the moment that we shut it down as it seems to be quickly degenerating into an "Us Vs Them" thread. Suffice it to say that while both sides have valid points from both a personal and historical perspective, I believe that they should not be taken as insults directed at any one strata either within the Services or outside either past or present. Debates about leadership, leaders and their qualities is sometimes a very hard thing to put down in writing - although it's bloody obvious when you see it in action. Regards, Shane ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 2) From rolie muise Subject Re RN Cruisers Try www.world-war.co.uk/ Great site for cruisers of all navies. rolie ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 3) From SeaWoodies@aol.com Subject Charleston's Maritime History Years ago while visiting Charleston, South Carolina I was fortunate to tour the Charleston historical museum and photograph the many wonderful shipmodels and their full scale mockup replica of the CSN Hunley. A visit to the bookstore prior to leaving allowed me to purchase their last copy of "Charleston's Maritime History", an illustrated history by P.C. Coker III. I see on this list a P.C.Coker and must assume that he is the author of this wonderful book which stands out as one of the finest in my collection of almost 1 hundred volumes on ships and shipbuilding. I have learned much about the fascinating subject of Confederate naval history because of this publication. SeaWoodies@aol.com ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 4) From "George Peat" Subject Revell 'U' Boat The long awaited Revell 'U' boat has surfaced. I have 2 of them here and they look great even after just a quick look in the box.A long awaited target for the Flower class corvettes and other escorts that I have. George Peat BEM [Secretary TF72/UK] ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 5) From Billgior@aol.com Subject Re USS Arizona superstructure Hi Kevin Woodruff Just so you know the forward tripod mast of the USS Arizona was not melted down for scrap, It is laying in a field where the USS Nevada was beached off of Waipo. When you take the Navy tour through pearl harbor, they take you by there and you can see it rusting away it has been laying there since 1942. There are some other twisted superstructure parts there rusting away also but they are hard to make out what they are. I have been to pearl harbor four times the last time was 2001. I do not know why they have never scraped them but some of the Arizona still exsist. Thought you would like to know. Bill Giordano ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 6) From DgMyr1@aol.com Subject Re USS Texas 1944 Great Adventures Hobby has the ISW USS Texas for $259.97. Their site is down right now but you can contact them at greatadhobby@aol.com Regards, Doug ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 7) From Rusty White Subject Re Viking Models >>I don't remember the modeler's name, but he sure looked like Dan [Joplin ?] from Viking. I don't know if he's looking at getting back in the business or not. << Take it from someone who has done business with them in the past. IF ANY of the former owners of Viking start a new company be VERY wary of doing business with them. Their business ethics leave a LOT to be desired. Rusty White Flagship Models Inc. flagshipmodels.com ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 8) From "lamarbjones" Subject Re Texas Remember, there are two different Texas models. The original 1893 battleship, the USA's first designated battleship, and then the subsequent Texas, which is still in existence. Both are ISW/Commander kits. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 9) From "Lars Scharff" Subject RN cruiser and Arthur W. Radford (DD 968) @Ron Ajax had in 1940 eight 6in (4 x 2), eight 4in (4 x 2) and tewelve 0,5in MGs (3 x 4), eight 21in torpedoes (2 x 4) and one Walrus aircraft. The MGs were on the bridge wings and the position of the missing after director. Kenja had in 1940 twelve 6 in (4 x 3), eight 4in (4 x 2), eight 2 pdr (2 x 4, on the hangar), eight 0,5in MGs (2 x 4, near the after HACS), six 21 in torpedoes (2 x 3) and three Walrus? aircraft. Does somebody produce the AEM/S (the new mainmast) as conversion kit for the Spruance-class destroyer Arthur W. Radford? What are the differences between Arthur W. Radford as built and as decommissiond on 18.3.03? The VLS, AEM/S, enlarged hangar (on both sides of the ship?), new after Phalanx mounting and ?? Did Radford ever got a RAM launcher? Best regards Lars Scharff ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 10) From "Julio Pillet" Subject Re SpanishAmerican war ships plans Dear Friedrich Reina Cristina commissioned in 4-1890 Reina Mercedes commissioned in 9-1893 Destructor commissioned in 1-1887 Temerario class Build in Cartagena Temerario commissioned in 12-1891 Build in La Carraca Nueva España commissioned in 1891 (Ex-Veloz) Martin Alonzo Pinzon commissioned in 12-1894 (Ex-Audaz) Build in El Ferrol Marques de Molins commissioned in 1894 (Ex-Veloz) Galicia commissioned in 1894 Vincente Yanez Pinzon commissioned in 1894 (Ex-Rápido) T-gunboats T-1 launched in 1911 and the last one, the T-22, commissioned in 1921.(In 1914, 10 "T" were commissioned in the Spanish Navy).
