Excellent reference, but the photos and drawings were thin, I thought. I'm curious how everything thinks it compares to Wallin's book (which I haven't read). Michael Smith Marshall, Texas ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 3) From David Wells Subject Re USS New Jersey museum looks for more visitors - Camden, NJ "Reid, John (AFIT)" wrote >> http//edition.cnn.com/2004/TRAVEL/DESTINATIONS/02/25/battleship.new.jersey.ap/index.html is worth reading. << It barely scratches the surface, but it's a start. I'm sure that the Battleship New Jersey Historical Museum Society would prefer that I say nothing, (I'm co-webmaster) so I'll at least say very little. Some may have noticed that the Society's website hasn't said much of anything lately. Some day, the full tale of woe and intrigue will be told. Remember the Oregon. (BB-3) "There seems to be something wrong | David R. Wells with our bloody ships today" | Adm. D. Beatty, May 31, 1916 | http//home.att.net/~WellsBrothers/ ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 4) From "Sue & Clive Chapman" Subject Mayflower rigging plan Hi, Can anyone tell me where I could obtain a detailed rigging plan for the Mayflower (I'm using the 1/96 Airfix Classic kit as a basis for a more detailed model, but of course there's lots of detail missing from the kit!) or perhaps a source of detailed photographs of the replica in the USA? Thanks, Clive ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 5) From "Reid, John (AFIT)" Subject Napoleonic (1/700) Men of War Bill Weckel Napoleonic small scale warships - try Skytrex (1/1200) at www.skytrex.com . Even though Napoleonic line-of-battle ships ("liners" or "battleships") are small by later standards, at 1/700 anything more than a single ship frigate action will be impossibly long, whether a battle line or a group at anchor in Spithead/Brest. There is a nice line of transitional ships too if you want to move ahead into Victoriana. Including HMCS Cerberus ("C" denoting "colonial" not Canadian). John Reid ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 6) From "Robert Lockie" Subject White metal ships with p/e sails I think the small scale Napoleonic ships may well be by Skytrex, in 1/600 scale. Robert Lockie Swindon UK ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 7) From "Topy Yester" Subject Re Bomb color / topedo color To Bert McDowell and all, AFAIK USN bombs were painted ANA Olive Drab colour with yellow stripes. I'm not sure if this applies to all category, I think I have only seen some 1000 pound GP bombs, so AP bombs may differ. For color photos on torpedoes go to www.centuryinter.net/midway, go to the Toredo 8 in color section. There are rare color photographs - courtesy of Mark Horan - snapshots from a color film about the VT-8 prior to the Battle of Midway. On some pictures you can see a ligter gray on the nose of the fishes and a darker, greenish color on the rear part. I hope this helps. Best regards, Zsolt from Hungary ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 8) From "Topy Yester" Subject Re Points of interest for the hobbyist in Germany To Stephen Varhegyi and all, Munic and Koblenz are a very good start. Koblenz has a military museum with some WWII German Panzers (Hetzer, Panther) and there is an interesting bookshop beside the museums's building. I was there about ten years ago, but have good memories. I do not know much about Ship museums, but I think the best Museums are in Kiel and Hamburg - so rather in northern Germany. For Aircraft I would also suggest the external part of the Deutches Museum of Munic - in Oberschleissheim (short overview http//www.deutsches-museum.de/zweig/werft/hist.htm aircrafts http//wherzog.de/flugtag/oberschleissheim.html) For vehicles (civil and military) I would suggest the museums in Speyer and Sinsheim (http//www.technik-museum.de/) I hope this helps Best regards, Zsolt ... from Hungary ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Model club & SMMLcon Information ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 1) From brownatfareham@surefish.co.uk Subject Small Warship SIG The website (www.smallwarshipgroup.org.uk) was updated earlier today.
