Feel free to check the following two photos of the recently rescued telemeter. << I sure hope they get that thing in a preservation tank of salt water soon. It wouldn't make much sense to pull it out of the ocean just to let it sit on dry land like that and rust into nothing within a year or two. Devin ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 2) From "Kathy/Pirie Sublett" Subject Re submarine periscopes Franklyn I'm still not sure what you need exactly, but you might contact Nautilus Models (james@NautilusModels.com) which makes a number of submarine conversion and detail kits. Its owner is an occasional reader of these lists and may be able to help. Otherwise, perhaps members of SubCommittee (subcommittee.com) might help. I'm a surface sort myself (fish live underwater, and you KNOW what they're like). Pirie Sublett ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 3) From John Fraser Subject 1/700 napoleonic ships and thansk for info on German ships Hi, the 1/700 napoleonic models I know of are made by Skytrex. They can be found at www.skytrex.com. or see http//www.guineahobbies.com/Wargames2/trafalgar.htm and http//www.modelwarships.com/reviews/ships/misc/sail/victory-bucentaure/victory-bucentaure.html And a big thanks to all those who replied to my request for info re German warships, that's great thatks a lot. One thingI'm not too sure about is what the two columns of prices are for on the website http//www.vora-modellbau.de/Kaiserlichemarine.html can anyone clear it up for me please? Many thanks John ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 4) From David Wells Subject Mosquitocon 2004 (was USS New Jersey looks for more visitors) Gary Kingzett wrote >> As someone with more than a passing interest in the fate of the Big NJ, I would like to invite you to MosquitoCon, the Morth Jersey IPMS chapter's model show and contest, being held at the Wayne, NJ. PAL facility on Saturday, March 13, from 9 to 4. I am particularly interested in talking with individuals such as yourself who might be able to shed a little light on the ship's problems. And you will have a good time, I promise. 300-400 people, upward of 500 models of all types, 20-30 excellent ships and several enthusiatic ship modelers to talk with. Stop by and say Hi. I'll have a name tag on and look forward to seeing you. << Having been to Mosquitocon in the past with the Battleship New Jersey Historical Museum Society, I can state with some confidence that this is a pretty good show. I have enjoyed every single trip to Mosquitocon. I should also note that the Society and New Jersey IPMS have long had a friendly and cooperative relationship. I encourage any ship modeler in the area to show up. I'm surprised that Gary didn't mention the NJ-IPMS web site http//www.njipms.org/ which has details, directions, etc. Joe Poutre (my partner-in-crime on the Society web page, Rajen's List, and other projects) and I may show up if Joe's wife lets him out of the house. (and my GF gives me the day off from working on her house.....) "There seems to be something wrong | David R. Wells with our bloody ships today" | Adm. D. I have use testers tube fillers but what I have found it dose not go all that far, Another one I use and usely most of the is the single squadron fillers, Please don't ask what the difference is between the white and green I have use both seem to work just the same. ON body filler question ? This is what I have done . Auto motive body filler? I have use it as well considering I use to do Automotive body work , Yes it will work good drying time will depend on how much heat is being use and how it is mix Some times Body filler can be a little tricky as I learn many years go in the Automotive field but Yes I feel it will work just as good as any thing elest. I hope this may help some so I have to agree on what others say in the filling department ;-) Don That Portland Rustbucket ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 6) From "John Slater" Subject Wanted urgently - plans - Giuseppe Garibaldi Aircraft Carrier I build exclusively in a scale of 1/72 and would like to build in this scale Giuseppe Garibaldi, the Italian modern VTOL aircraft carrier. After extensive internet searches, visits to the library and even contacting the ship building company Fincantieri in Genova Italy, I have turned up pretty close to nothing in the way of plans to support my project. Does anyone know where I can buy a copy of drawings of the frames, general arrangements, profiles, etc? Happy to pay any expenses involved. kind regards John Slater Sydney Australia ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 7) From PAUL TOSCANO Subject Re Naval bookstores in London >> I am not London-based but I visit there often. My favourites are There are also many interesting bookstores in Greenwich High Street not far from the National Maritime Museum and Greenwich station of the Docklands Light Railway (DLR). Many handle also second-hand books, which the others I mention do not.. You should get off at Cutty Sark station and have a look at her before walking on! << One of the finest and just a stone's throw from Cutty Sark is Anthony J. Simmonds Maritime Books 23 Nelson Road Greenwich London SE10 9JB He has one of the finest collections and best calatogs if you want to order by mail. He deals in both used and in print titles. I have been dealing with him for over 30 years. Tell him "Paul from Osaka" sent you!" Hi, I forgot that there was a two-part article on HMS Tiger by John Roberts in issues 5 and 6 of Warship, later reprinted in Warship Vol. II. Art Nicholson ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- TRADERS, ANNOUNCEMENTS & NOTICEBOARD ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 1) From "John Snyder" Subject Here At Last... ...and well worth the wait! In stock now at White Ensign Models Chesneau, Roger. King George V Class Battleships. London Chatham, 2004. S/b, 64pp, references, £14.99. The first title in Chatham’s Ship Craft series. Beginning with the design, Roger Chesneau first details the class as a whole, then covers the careers on a ship-by-ship basis. He then goes on to examine every model of the KGV class ever produced commercially, from 11250 cast metal examples to the wide range of plastic kits Revell 11200 KGV; Lindberg 11100 Prince of Wales; Tamiya 1700 KGV and Prince of Wales; Airfix 1600 KGV; Revell 1570 KGV and Prince of Wales; Heller 1400 KGV; Tamiya 1350 KGV and Prince of Wales and discusses the strength and weaknesses of the various kits. Roger provides a look at the various aftermarket accessories available for the various kits, and then moves into a detailed lookaptly titled Modelmakers’ Showcaseat some very fine models, ranging from the official builder’s model of KGV, through excellent builds of the various kits, to Yuri Novak’s scratchbuilt 1200 scale model of HMS Duke of York and Brian King’s 1192 HMS Anson. The book provides colour camouflage profiles of KGV and Prince of Wales. Of great use to modellers is a chapter on the appearance of the vessels, covering the various alterations that they underwent. This chapter includes line drawings of KGV in 1940 and 1945. 114 photos provide an intimate look at the ships and the stunning models. Virtually the only black-and-white photos in the book are historic photos of the ships in serviceeverything else is in colour. This is the first important new work on the KGV class in years, and is a must for shipmodellers. Chesneau, Roger. German Pocket Battleships. London Chatham, 2004. S/b, 64pp, references, £14.99. This second title in the Ship Craft series follows the same format at the first, but add a section on the aircraft carried by the panzerschiffe. Roger Chesneau examines the design and development of the ships, then covers each ship’s career. Moving on to model products, he again looks at what has been offered commercially Italeri 1720 Deutchland; Italeri 1720 Graf Spee; Fujimi 1700 Deutschland; Fujimi 1700 Graf Spee; Fujimi 1700 Admiral Scheer; Airfix 1600 Graf Spee; Heller 1400 Lutzow; Heller 1400 Admiral Scheer; Heller 1400 Graf Spee and discusses the strength and weaknesses of the various kits. The discussion of aftermarket accessories is a bit more brief than the same section in the first book. The Modelmaker’s Showcase provides another wide-ranging look at some very fine models, from 1100 to 1350 scale. Chesneau give modellers colour profiles of Deutschland (1933), Lutzow (Baltic, 1941 and Norway, late 1942), Admiral Scheer (1939, 1940, 1942, 1943), Graf Spee (1939 and 1940including the camo scheme on the bridge and conning tower). There are also plan & profile views of the He 60 and Ar 196 aircraft carried by the ships. As was the case with the first book in the series, there is a chapter on appearance, showing how the ships changed over time, and includes line drawings of Graf Spee in 1939, Deutschland/Lutzow 1935-39, 1940-42, and 1942-44), Admiral Scheer 1939-40, 1942-43. Selected references guide modellers to other sources of information. There are 102 well-selected photos for illustration and inspiration. Any modeller interested in this important class of ship will want this book. Get 'em while they're hot!!
