Alexanderson, has died. The New York Times has a good obit here http//www.nytimes.com/2004/03/04/national/04ALEX.html (you may need to register to read it) Norwegian Cruise Lines also issued a statement this week saying that they are taking good care of the Commodore's ship and are rounding up blueprints and drawings so they may proceed with planning. If you've not yet done so, visit http//www.ssunitedstates.org/ and sign up for the mailing list. If you're a fan of this ship, it's well worth subscribing so you can keep up with developments. Jodie Peeler ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 2) From URUDOFSKY@aol.com Subject Re Graf Spee Salvage These large pieces are virtually impossible to preserve. USS Monitor Preservation has a good site for explaining what happens. http//www.monitorcenter.org/conservation/fragile.html Ulrich H. Rudofsky ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 3) From "David Judy" Subject Re Bluejacket Butler class DE Anyone familiar with this kit? How it builds up etc. In Christ Dave Judy ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 4) From "Tom Detweiler" Subject Re submarine periscopes Hi FK Brown-- I am surprised noone answered your request but I have an idea for your periscope try a small telescoping antenna, from an old FM transistor radio-- they can be bought surplus, or you could remove one from a broken radio or toy. Look for one that suits your scale and you'll probably find something. Radio shack might have something if that's all there is in your area. You can then extend the sections to get the size and lengths you want, and it cuts easy with a tubing cutter, I've done it many times. Makes good scale cannon barrels, stanchions, all sorts of stuff. Good luck! Tom Detweiler in Grass Valley CA ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 5) From "Victor Pironescu" Subject Maille Breze Hello! I'm Victor from Romania. I'm a collector of battleship kits and I have a problem. If you'll be so kind to help me, I would be forever grateful to you for this! Recently a have bought a Heller kit of Maille Breze battleship, but, for some reasons, I don't have attached a construction scheme of this ship. So I'm stock and there are many details whish I don't know very well where to put them. My big request is, if it's posible, to send me a detailed picture of this ship or the construction scheme, or to tell me where I could find this, 'cause I'm tring some google searches for 3 days and there are no detailed pictures of this ship. Thank you very much for your support, All the best Victor ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- TRADERS, ANNOUNCEMENTS & NOTICEBOARD ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 1) From David Wells Subject Rajen's List Version 6.3 Now Available! Fellow SMMLlies We've finally done it! Version 6.3 is at last on-line! It's in the usual place http//www.quuxuum.org/rajens_list/shiprevs.html We've got lots of new reviews. The total size of the list is now over a megabyte! Dialup users may wish to download a local copy to their own machine. I think that the top prize for reviewers has to go to our sub guru, Tom Dougherty, who gave us an AMAZING number of reviews of plastic and resin kits. Peter Mispelkamp and Allan Plumb went a long way towards completing our collection of Heller reviews. Thanks also to the many others who have contributed, including Rod Dauteuil, Michael Jurijew, Jodie Peeler, Daniel Taylor, Alan Millen, Chuck Messer, Harold Stockton, Mike Leonard, Michael D'Silva, everyone else who contributed whose names I've forgotten, and of course, Joe Poutre. I've done quite a bit of "polystyrene archaeology" (if I may steal a phrase) in trying to find data on old, forgotten companies and their model ship kits. There's more stuff on Pyro and LifeLike, a new section for Adams (and their single ship kit) and even an extention of the Renwal section, which now includes more on their 1/1200 scale kits. Actually, I've been working hard on at least providing entries for more 1/1200 scale kits, in the hope that the 1/1200 community will review some more of them. There are also more internal links, which will hopefully make it easier to "shop around" among various competing kits. As always, Rajen's List is free. Please remember that we are always looking for new reviews to improve the next version, so if you like the List, and you use the List, you should contribute to the List. Build a model ship, and tell us about it! I will not be editing Version 6.4, so please send reviews to Joe Poutre. (joseph.poutre@verizon.net) "There seems to be something wrong | David R.
