This was when I delivered my models there for their "95" contest. We had several phone conversations while I was building the United States and he said he would like to see it when I delivered it to the museum. Commodore was a fun man to talk with and get to know. His memory of the Big U was still very vivid. Something I will treasure is the photos taken of us with the model and our entire group out side in front of the five bladed spare propeller. I always remembered how he never wanted to see his ship in her sad condition and now I can really appreciate his feelings because of seeing my former ship waiting to meet her end. It's ashamed the United States wasn't ever readied for sea because he would have been the first passenger to embark aboard her. I'm sure he is sailing somewhere today. Thanks to all of you that took the time to get in touch I now have a hull built part of the superstructure rough out, O yes I am referring to the LST 1169 I am doing for some one back in the mid west. He should be happy with it, But working in this scale yes it is different from working in what I am use of doing 1/8th or 1/96 scale, Thank you again DON that Portland Rustbucket in wet Portland ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 4) From "keith" Subject Mariners' Museum Hi SMMLies, I was told last Thurs. night that the Mariners' Museum may not be having their model contest next year in 2005. I was told this was due to the lack of funds and it cost them $14,000 to run the last one. I know the amount of work that goes into these events so I don't doubt that price tag. This person also mentioned that the museum is trying to deal with a few other museums to take it over. Anyone else heard of this report? KTB ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 5) From Dengar Subject Shmel Type 1204 Class (PGR) Does anyone have any information at all on this Russian River Monitor? Gary ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 6) From "Millen, Alan R." Subject MosquitoCon versus NorthernVirginiaCon (?) Hi, there, Listees! Just a quick question of anyone who has attended these shows. I can only make one of them, and I'm equidistant from each. Is either one likely to have more floaty things over wingy things, or ground crawlers? Any SMMLies gonna be at the Virginia show on April 10th? ISW? Thanks for any help! Alan Roy Millen ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 7) From "Chris Drage" Subject Calling Dan Jones Hi All, Can anyone let me know of Dan Jones' ( formally Plastic Ship Modeller) email address? I seem to have lost touch with him. Cheers.
