The frame number isn't listed on any, however, and they were redrawn by the likes of Raven, Baker, et.al. - so looks can be decieving. I will await finding primary research material on my next NARA sojourn before I make my mind up. << After serving on the TICO and then seeing one of her sisters, I remember distinctly that the crane was aft of the elevator, as compared to forward. I only wish I could remember which sister it was. Jerry ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 2) From "Millen, Alan R." Subject Re 110 Ft. WW1 subchasers Thank you, Franklyn! I had a thought that the black numbers may have been the French boats, but not having any listing of the French hull numbers I couldn't be sure. Last question, then I'll go away. Is there any chance that your intact manuscript would be available for reading? For all of the information the NRG saw fit to dis-include? Thanks again! Alan Roy Millen ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 3) From Subject Brickbats and Bouquets Having written articles (and a book) over many years I would like to comment on Franklyn Brown's comments on receiving positive or negative comments on one's writings. While any comment at all is encouraging (at least someone is paying attention) I find the negative comments the most valuable. Not only do they put me on the right track when I have made an error, but also urge me to do better next time. The first article I wrote for MODEL MAKER (later MODEL BOATS) back in 1966 prompted a letter from none other than the Editor of Jane's Fighting Ships correcting me on several points. Yes, bouquets are nice, but give me brickbats any time if one needs improvement. Michael London (aka Michael Ainsworth) ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 4) From "Norman Samish" Subject WW1 subchasers Franklyn, Thanks for a fascinating description of these ships. It makes me wish for more details on the adventures these vessels must have had. Norman ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 5) From "William H. Shuey" Subject Re photoetched parts >> Can any member me trace a company that did photoetched parts for individual modellers called FOTOCUT of box120 Erieville NY 13061 whose properitor was a Mr Fred Hultberg ... << Fred is still around, shows up on the rec.models.scale newsgroup every now and then. Try oletcherfred@yahoo.com Bill Shuey ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 6) From Bill Weckel Subject Re Blue navigation lights on Japanese aircraft models >> However, in Yamato-kotoba, known for its earthy and feeling-laden words rather than objectivity, blue and green are synonymous ao. This definitely makes translation difficult! Gernot, Is this where we get the "ao" in protective sealant? If so, what is the "-take"? Bill ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 7) From "Leonard, Michael W" Subject Re RN Ship's Interiors >> Floors are to be EPDM (?) sheet either Stone 7220-99-891-6613 or Brown 7220-99-551-0829 . The number reference is an "NSN" which I assume is Nato Standard Number. << NSN = National Stock Number. I believe the second set of digits indicates the NATO member country of origin, which for example is "00" for USA. Perhaps a supply type can confirm... Mike Alexandria, VA USA ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 8) From SeaPhoto@aol.com Subject Re Hoga going to Arkansas Burl Burlingame writes >> It's official - the Navy has awarded Pearl Harbor veteran USS Hoga to the attraction complex in Arkansas that includes the Clinton Library, rather than to the Pearl Harbor group. The Navy never has done very well regarding Pearl Harbor history... << Well...Honolulu has the USS Arizona memorial, and the USS Missouri at Pearl Harbor. Not everyone can afford to fly out to Hawaii, so if someone from the eastern US wants to see a bit of authentic US History you would begrudge them the tug? I thought the Navy made a poor decision to send the Missouri to Hawaii, where only a select number of US citizens could see her. She is tied up near the Arizona, a fitting placement, but inside a secure zone that limits access. Short of placing her off limits, it is hard to see how they could have made it more difficult to visit one of the most important historical sites in recent US History. Certainly she will not receive many casual visitors, as it is a time consuming process just to reach her brow. Contrast this to the placement of the USS Alabama, North Carolina or Massachusetts, or more recently the Wisconsin. (I will give you that the location of the New Jersey was a blunder). As far as the Clinton library goes, would you prefer to see the ship scrapped rather than be tied up near it? My understanding is that the maritime museum and the library are two separate entities. It pains me to see my fellow citizens so politically polarized these days that the mention of a particular president (and this hatred is spread equally among both parties) will cause folks to lash out irrationally. I would appreciate if anyone can inform me if this company is still in business, its present address, e-mail address and web site. I would also be grateful if members can give me the address of any other company that does similar work for modellers at reasonable prices. I have a two year project which i cannot finish before i obtain a few photoetched parts which i need to etch out in .08 Brass. Also where can I obtain commercial scale plans (full hull) perferably in 1/192 scale, but any other scale would also do, of HMS tiger-battlecruiser and of a DARING class destroyer of the 1950's Webb plans of Australia used to have a scale plan of a DARING class but the company is also untraceable << Dennis, I've used these guys http//www.ppdltd.com/ on several projects and thay are always very quick, top notch quality and resonable prices. You can also try http//www.photo-etch.co.uk/ whose work is similarly excellent. No commercial links, just a happy customer of both. I would like to convert the Revell kit of the Snowberry to replicate the Drumheller. Can anybody out there tell me the source of any good reference books, plans etc Thanks Jon Bottomley Ashford, Kent ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 12) From "DUCKMAN" Subject CV DECK HOWDY ALL, PLEASE REFER ME TO A SITE WHERE I CAN GET SOME GOOD PICS OF U.S. KOREAN WAR CARRIER DECKS. THANKS, DAVID IN DIXIE ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 13) From andrew jones Subject USS Hoga Well at least its going somewhere it can be preserved.. Pitty its not going to Hawaii...but as long as she/it remains its better than seeing another famous ship ending up a rusting hulk or broken up in some backyard junk yard Andrew ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- TRADERS, ANNOUNCEMENTS & NOTICEBOARD ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 1) From "Rod Dauteuil" Subject Wanted to buy - Name plate from Revell Enterprise Hello all, I'm looking for the USS Enterprise CV6 nameplate from the Revell carrier. This was just reissued with nameplates for all 3 Yorktown class carriers. If anybody has an Enterprise nameplate they would like to sell, or at least let me borrow so I can make a mold and pour my own resin, please contact me. I'm attempting to make the 3 Yorktown class carriers. I have the Yorktown and the Hornet (from the War in the Pacific set) but I want to make the Enterprise. I already have a another Yorktown kit, otherwise I'd just buy the new reissue.
