All I can find out is that they were dark gray. I also have read reference to 'shinny brass' smoke stacks. Weird. Could the stacks have been painted a brass color? National Ensign was the same as it has always been? Torpedo cradle's were wood? On the plans they look like an indication of wood but it is not clear. Torpedoes? Were they with bronze or copper heads? These are tough to do as information is scanty to non existent. Thanks for the help gang.I'll post a JPEG of the beast when I'm finished. You all helped so much on the five MTB's of W.W.II;. Sboot, Type 100, PT-34,MAS-451, G-5, Vospers. Joe Hinds ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 2) From "David N. Lombard" Subject Re 110 ft subchaser book From PaulShip37@aol.com >> I have read with interest the ongoing discussions of the history of the 110ft subchasers of WWI. One of the original references I have come across is a book "Cinderellas of the Fleet",published in the 20's. I was a little surprised to see an unknown source, a book about 100footers titled " Hounding the Hun from the Seas" on Ebay yesterday. It was published by the Elco works of NJ in 1919, 40 pgs. The auction had just closed but I jotted down the winners name if anyone with an ongoing interest wanted to try to correspond with them. << I found this info on a reprint. I wonder if the original or reprint was sold? 2003 N&M Press reprint (original pub nd). SB. 43pp with numerous b/w illus. A Boys' Own Paper style, short, illustrated story of the naval Motor Launches (M.L.s)and their exploits against U boats, mines and their part in the Zeebrugge and Ostend raids in 1918. Everyone, I'm building a 1/350 USS Long Beach and I noticed what appears to be some rather large porthole looking details on the bulkheads. Can anyone tell me exactly what these are? I find it hard to believe the US navy would put such large prtholes on a warship or any other vessel. Rusty White Flagship Models Inc. Home of the "how to" modeling cds flagshipmodels.com ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 4) From WILLIAM ORETO Subject HP USN RELEASES FOR 2004 ??? Hello All, Anybody know what HP plans to release in 1/700 USN this year? Thanks, Bill Oreto ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 5) From "Doug Wilde" Subject Hounding the Hun from the Sea Just did a quick look on the used book scene and found HOUNDING THE HUN FROM THE SEAS. Doug Wilde ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 6) From Gernot Hassenpflug Subject Re Blue navigation lights on Japanese aircraft models >> Is this where we get the "ao" in protective sealant? If so, what is the "-take"? << Hello Bill, yes you are correct about the 'ao' in 'aotake'. 'Take' mean 'bamboo', so this is the word used to describe things the color of fresh bamboo. It is a very nice word, as is the color itself. Regards, Gernot ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 7) From "Alan Cameron" Subject Re photoetched parts >> Also where can I obtain commercial scale plans (full hull) perferably in 1/192 scale, but any other scale would also do, of HMS tiger-battlecruiser and of a DARING class destroyer of the 1950's Webb plans of Australia used to have a scale plan of a DARING class but the company is also untraceable << Dennis, Try WEM in the UK, they may have something in their sereis of Jecobin Plans from memory? Webb Plans no longer operate in Oz, but Hylands Bookshop in Melbourne may have a copy of the original Webb Plans, contact me off line if you want me to ring them? Alan Cameron ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 8) From "graham" Subject Re photoetched parts Dennis Webb warship disapeared may years ago there was some stuff on this board last year about about Webb warship I believe that Fleetline has some connect or may know about Webb Warships Drawing http//members.optusnet.com.au/starline/ I only have there some of there A3 size plans 1"=24Ft HMS Duchess 1953, HMAS Vendetta 1964, HMAS Vampire 1972 ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 9) From Diodor@aol.com Subject Re Donald Duck Navy In his enthusiasm for WWI subchasers my good friend Franklyn Brown mentioned several nicknames for these little vessels that included, incorrectly, "Donald Duck Navy." This appendage belongs exclusively to the second generation, the valiant and doughty subchasers of World War II. Donald Duck made his first appearance in Walt Disney's Silly Symphony in 1934. Ted Treadwell ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 10) From "Baumbach, Werner" Subject Amga Class Ballistic Missile Transport Hallo all, Executive summary Does anyone have more than a linedrawing of this type of boats? Long version while leafing through my reference book of the Soviet Navy looking for Nanuchkas, Osas, Tarantuls and Pauks, I came across an interesting auxilliary the Amga Class, or a ballistic missile transport. It is basically a transport built around a huge crane. I got a side linedrawing in the book and a small picture. A search of the Internet provided two sister ships (modified Amgas) the Daugava and the Vetluga. The Daugava was site of an accident with a nuke a few years back and there is a tiny picture on the internet as well. Okay, from what I have seen so far, this seems interesting for a scratchbuilt attempt, but the material is very scarce at the moment. Does anyone have anything on this boat? Cheers Werner ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 11) From "David Griffith" Subject Potemkin Hello All, Working steadily on a Combrig 1/700 Potemkin. Thanks for the advice regarding the colour scheme. I hope to have it finished in time for the IPMS Scottish Nationals in Perth at the end of April. But that all depends on how much the wife wants me to do in the garden!! -( or -) it's all down to the weather!! Now for a question regarding the crew. (If you're doing the Potemkin then you really HAVE to do it as a diorama with hordes of excited sailors running about waving red flags. That's what I say, anyhow.) What colour of uniform did the sailors of the Black Sea Fleet wear in 1905? If I remember the film correctly, I think they wore all white, but I may have seen photos with white tops and dark trousers. Any more definitive information would be gratefully received. For obvious reasons, I'm not that interested in the officers' uniforms, as there were probably not that many left on board!!
