Mattis" Subject 1/96 Scale Figures Does anyone know where you can find 1/96 scale figures for scale WWII warships. I have a heavy cruiser and 2 destroyers that could use them. Bob Mattis ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 2) From "Tim Perry" Subject Possible Fleet Boats... >> I was just looking at Fine Scale Modeler may 2004. It has a model review on Revells VIIC U-boat.. Looks like a nice kit ...Any hints out there of anyone doing an Injection-molded US fleet sub any time soon?? .. Are there any kits of a fleetboat in 1/72 scale? << Best way to persuade Revell to do more 172 submarines is to make the Type VII a commercial success for them. Nothing will attract their attention more than sky-high sales on the current product. So, go buy 3 U-Boats each, then write to Revell (preferably with a photocopy of your till reciept as proof of purchase) and give them a list of what you want to see next. I'd have thought a Gato or similar would be a great idea. First look indicates that Revell has removed some of the original parts from the kit sprue and left out some of the information concerning assembly and parts identification. In particular there is a triangular piece of plastic attached to the sprue that contains both halves of the hull and is not identified by a part number. Is it possible that this is a leftover part from days gone by when Revell had children in mind and the possiblity to put this ship to a float test which would require some type of keel extension to stabilze the boat while it was afloat? TIA, Jeffry Fontaine Bremerton, Washington ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 4) From Joe Norris Subject Tamiya Pre-Built Responses Thanks for the info, guys. FYI, I am a builder (with a Tamiya/Con "Best of Show" in 2000 to show for it) and would not buy one of the pre-builts unless they were nothing short of stunning. They are certainly asking a lot for them. I was curious as to the quality level. I only entertain buying such things because my workbench is so backlogged... I'm sure that never happens to anyone else on the list. -) Mahalo!! Joe Norris Kapolei, Hawaii ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 5) From "enrico_villa\@libero\.it" Subject Shinano kits Hi all, I'm interested in building a full-hull Shinano, and I was wondering if anybody could give me some feedback on the old Hasegawa 1-450 kit. I know there is a Doyusha 1-250, but my understanding is that this one is more a bathtub toy than a display model kit. Finally I think there was also a Nichimo 1-300 kit does anyone have seen this one? Since I would probably have to buy whatever kit on-line (all of these are not easily available in Italy), I will not have the chance to "touch" the kit before buying it, so any comment/review would be highly appreciated! Thanks a lot and happy modeling! Enrico ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 6) From "Rui Francisco Matos" Subject 1/72 Fleet Subs Hi SMML'ies Just adding more info Combat Models have a 1/72 scale FleetSub! It is a Gato vacform hull (in four parts, if I remember) with a lot of work to be done but workable! With no fittings, you would have to use HR Products or others (like Airfix Boffors and Oerlikons) or even scratchbuilding your own! Others in the line include typ XXI, typ IX, typ VII-c, a WWI U-boat and a few boomers. The hulls are around US$50.00, much cheaper then the earlier mentioned ones (for R/C). http//www.swiftsite.com/rosemonthobby/combat.htm here's a list of available hulls As on previous emails I have NO commercial interests in the above mentioned companies, just spreading the word! Best regards from Lisbon, Portugal Rui Matos (aka Skipper) [who is moving to "smaller scales" and building several conversions on the Revell USS Lionfish] ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 7) From "sifuentes_pablo" Subject Heller landing craft kits Has anybody seen the new releases by Heller of an LCVP and an LCM in HO scale? Supposedly they are to be packaged individually and as part of a set commemorating the 60th anniversary of D-Day. As far as I understand, the D-Day set will include a costal defense fort, an LCM, LCVP, a M4 Sherman, a US truck, a German tank (I forget the type) and some Allied and German troops. Some of these items are from Airfix molds, but the LCVP and trcuk are new Heller designs. These items were supposed to have been released back in January 2004, but the only information I have is from Tower Hobbies saying that the LCVP will be available in late April. Any additional info and sources on these kits will be greatly appreciated.
