Not to have one seems odd, but I haven't seen any list of more than one. But then, there were their multiple Essexii. 2) If not, what are the differences between 1975 and now, other than of course the A/C fit (they already list future F-14D and Super Hornet…) << I am informed that there will be as many as four variants of the NIMITZ type model ships....unbelievable for us aircraft carrier modellers to have these options and choices. The first and second will be virtualy the same with period Air Wings of the time and a very austere radar fit atop the island. The second batch will have CIWS sponsons (some had on starboard side of island, some did not), newer 80s type airwings and radar upgrades. The last two will probably be current, with all defence upgrades, radar suites, aircraft. There are 8 CVN NIMITZ class with the RONALD REAGAN being the 9th HULL, but a new island rebuild. That would be sweet if they did that....bear in mind all this will not happen overnite but will span a couple years....it would kill out pocketbooks if all four came out in a 6 month time frame. For those of you waiting with baited breaths, I am planning a 2 volume CD, each with 100 detail photos of the first 4, then the second 4, not in any specific order, NIMITZ class carriers...to include tight in close ups of the assorted ships at different time frames, mostly starboard side and island and mast shots....as the port sides of each ship were almost identical and pretty austere. These photos are gleaned from my personal photo library from the last 20 years and in many cases not available on any websites. I read a similar question on the SteelNavy.com bulletin board a while back and one of the members, who works with Trumpeter in designing the kits, said there will be at least one additional version. As you mentioned, Trumpeter is in the process of creating additional aircraft sets. Based on the many versions of the Essexii (I like that!) I would wager that there are additional Nimitzii (my contribution) planned for the future. >>Allan "it's not a battleship, but it is rather large" Plumb << Nice .sig! I was with air group 8 aboard Nimtz 2nd cruise, 1977-1978. This was the first time she deployed with F14s and S3A ..Also the last cruise of any Carrier with all High Vis aircraft colors.. The ship herself recieved no outword change from her first cruise.. She had three sponsons with Nato Sea sparrow launchers, two were aft and one on the starboard side forward of elevator 1 .. She didnt get her Vulcan guns till her return from this cruise during her 1978-1979 yard period.. Her radar fit has changed with time also.. She had two bridle arrestors for her forward cats and I seem to recall one of these for one of the waist cats as well...Im sure these are no longer carried today. regards Bill C. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 5) From "John Sutherland" Subject Resolution 1942 Hi all, I am trying to establish what paints were used in Resolution's 1942 scheme. I have a diagrammatic from the HP kit and have seen the same layout in Raven and Roberts British battleships of WWII. Neither gives the colours used on what appears to be a five colour scheme. I am guessing 507A, B6, MS2 or MS4, MS4A and 507C with 507A decks. Comments? Information? Help!
