Kaplan" Subject Re IJN Yukikaze >> I have started build a card model of IJN Yukikaze. I'm looking for drawings showing her hull and especially how were divided steel plates on it - I'm goind to show it on my model. Anyone can help? << To the best of my recollection, there are no drawings that show her exact hull plating. However, there are a number of close-up photos of her in various publications that can help with many, though not all, areas of her hull. Gakken #s 19 & 45 have several enlarged photos of Yukikaze, both in her surrendered state immediately postwar and again in Nationalist Chinese service, that show visible plating lines. There's also a shot of her upon her commissioning trials, that's close enough to show the plating - I know it's in a Warship volume and a Maru Special, though the volume #s escape me at the moment. There are other shots in the Maru Special (#41 comes to mind now) that show close-ups of several other Kagero class DDs. HTH, Dan Kaplan ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 2) From "Katz, Gene S" Subject "Gray is Gray" >> Expediency prevailed. I am of the opinion that the varying shades of gray was similarly considered. "Hey, gray is gray, just do it, dammit. << Franklyn is so correct about that! On my ship, haze gray was haze gray, and it didn't matter if it came from this manufacturer or that, or this batch or that, or this lot or that, or this year or that. It was gray dammit,e.g., are you guys here to paint or argue with me? Obviously, I was there to paint, not argue with the bosun and paint locker storekeeper! Besides, in a few weeks it would fade anyway, more or less, depending on where we were sailing and what season. Gene ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 3) From DRPREUL@aol.com Subject Re J&D Productions Hi Don, I emailed Mike back the other day but have not had any reply back. The parts have been ready, I'm just waiting for payment. The problem seems to be on your end not J&Ds. In reply to Randy Ward...... J&D Production LLC is a partnership between "J" (Jeanne Pollard....Business Administrator and Great Companion, THE BOSS) & " D" (Don Preul....Laborer (model builder). We do not have any affiliation with the Naval Academy Museum other than I am a member of the model club. Don Preul ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 4) From "Mac Henry" Subject Re Only one Krivak left in the box? I have both the old version with two kits and the newer one with one kit. Here are the contents Old Kit--Krivak II Orange 31 This kit has two of the generic sprues with hulls, etc. It also has two small sprues with the 100mm guns and other details specific to the Krivak II. It also has a sprue of US/Western weapons including an SH-60 and SH-3 (both without rotors). There is a similar kit for Krivak I--I imagine that it has different small sprues with the dual 76mm guns etc. New Kit--Krivak I/II No. M-4 This kit only has one hull/generic sprue. It has the small sprue of Krivak II details and the small sprue of Krivak I details. There is NO Western weapons sprue. There are NO parts for the Krivak III KGB version with a helipad and hangar. I plan to make one of each of the variants, so I ended up with the correct number of ships. I hope this helps. Mac ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 5) From "George Peat" Subject US Navy Four Stacker Destroyers I am about to start on a 1/72nd scale US Navy Four Stacker destroyer John D Ford DD228 as she was in the 1920,s. On the fore mast there are a series of signal lights on the yard, Question what colour are they, Handed as port and starboard, white or coloured, Thanks George Peat ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 6) From Donald Bridge Subject Skywave Krivaks Skywave did indeed change this kit. As far as I know there are 3 versions (boxes) of this kit. M4 Krivak I/II 1 Ship SW30 Krivak I 2 Ships SW31 Krivak II 2 Ships I'm not sure if there are any actual differences in the kits as I haven't seen them for a while and I'm about 1500 miles away from them at the moment, but I have a vague memory of the M3 having a newer weapons sprue. Please correct me if I am wrong. I try and remember to check this when I'm on leave in June.
