I myself didn't went to Shizuoka, but they are talks of Japanese modellers. Firstly, DML announced the release of Bismarck in coming July. It is full hull kit, and small parts like Arado float plane and search light are moulded in transparent plastic. In Japan, Hasegawa is treating DML kits. But it is likely that Hasegawa didn't have any information about DML Bismarck just before of Hobby Show. This sudden DML announcement gave many shocks to Aoshima and Pit-Road. It seems that Aoshima had a plan to announce of re-tooling of their Bismarck and Tirpitz in autumn "Plastic and Radio-Control Model Show ". But Aoshima also announced release of Bismarck in the form of posting up drawings only as emergency counter to DML. Following address is drawing of Aoshima Bismarck, though I don't know it is identical to the ones appeared at Shizuoka. http//pink.jpg-gif.net/bbs/25/img/56558.jpg Lastly, Pit-Road. Bismarck won higher place at Pit-Road wish lists of 2003-2004, and they also have been developing Bismarck and Tirpitz. But they couldn't make any announcement st Shizuoka Show, as as far as I know. It wasn't until this Tuesday that they announced Bismarck and Tirpitz only through their web site. Regrettably, it seems that they don't update their English pages about Bismarcks. http//www5b.biglobe.ne.jp/~pitroad/newitem/w74_75.html Pit-Road say release will be in coming July. Other items announced at Shizuoka are 1/144 Yamato from Aoshima Kit for radio control, hull is GRP, upperworks are resin(?) It isn't Aoshima's original planning, but from outside staffs. I have heard Aoshima staff didn't have any detailed info about this big Yamato. Aoshima also announced 1/350 Yamato as pre-built form. 1/700 IJN DD Yukikaze from Aoshima New tool. 1/350 Liberty ship from Trumpeter 1/700 Yamato and Musashi from Fujimi Covering all stages of two battleships, from completion to sinking. 1/700 JMSDF DE Abukuma and Jintsu from Hasegawa Two in one package. 1/700 JMSDF DDH Haruna and Hiei from Pit-Road 1/700 Pre-built cross section models of Yamato from Takara This is one of "Candy-Toy", but Pit-Road is co-operating with Takara on master models. http//www.itmedia.co.jp/games/gsnews-photo/0405/13/05.html Other images are also can be seen at http//homepage3.nifty.com/AKATOMBO/event/shs2004.htm Best regards, Mitsuaki Kubota http//members.jcom.home.ne.jp/hmdock/ ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 2) From URUDOFSKY@aol.com Subject Re Gray is gray Finally, that makes a lot of sense to me! Even the spelling is weird "grey is grey" is also correct English. Gray is grey..... Thanks, Ulrich Rudofsky ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 3) From "Don Macdonald" Subject J D Productions Hey there Don Thank you for the up date, DON That Portland Rustbucket ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 4) From GORDONBUT@aol.com Subject Canadian holidays Hi everyone I am going on holiday to Canada next week and was wondering whether anyone can recommend good model shops in Vancouver, Toronto & Montral. This is for a couple of days in each. Thanks in anticapation Gordon Buttress ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 5) From Ned Barnett Subject Re US Navy Four Stacker Destroyers >> I am about to start on a 1/72nd scale US Navy Four Stacker destroyer John D Ford DD228 as she was in the 1920,s. On the fore mast there are a series of signal lights on the yard, Question what colour are they, Handed as port and starboard, white or coloured, << George I don't know the answer to that, but I'd refer you to a couple of sources a. Norman Friedman's US Destroyers - An Illustrated Design History - this book has just been updated and re-released; I'll be reviewing it here shortly, but I think all the new material is on post-1980 destroyer design. It does have a great deal about the four-stack flush deck destroyers, and might have illustrations, captions or text about this. b. Squadron-Signal recently came out with an "In Action" book on these early destroyers, with lots of photos. Maybe you can find the answer there. c. For an article on the USS Ward, I obtained lots of useful photos from the US Navy's history branch in DC - they might also have this kind of information available. I can't recall the contact info off the top of my head, but a quick google ought to find it - if not, call your Congressman's district office and ask them to find you the info - they live for this kind of simple, gratifying constituent service. BTW - if you're not an American (I just noticed your British-style spelling of colour), I'm sure any American you ask (me included) would be glad to help with the Congressional request. With an election coming up, it's a great indoor sport, watching Congressmen leap through flaming hoops for constituents . Good luck. Ned Barnett ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 6) From Randy Ward Subject Re J&D Productions >> In reply to Randy Ward...... J&D Production LLC is a partnership between "J" (Jeanne Pollard....Business Administrator and Great Companion, THE BOSS) & " D" (Don Preul....Laborer (model builder). We do not have any affiliation with the Naval Academy Museum other than I am a member of the model club. << Hi, Don. 'Sorry that I couldn't recall your name. It's been 2-1/2 years since that conference. My apologies to Jeanne. Unfortunately, the name sounds the same as "Gene", and I may have heard it verbally, rather than read it. I knew that you did some work *at* the museum, although I didn't realize that it was in affiliation with the model club there. At least I said that you did good work! 8-) Cap'n Randy ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 7) From paulship37@aol.com Subject Interesting items on eBay I saw these items for sale at eBay Title of item British Warships 2nd World War authentic scale plans Price Starts at $24.99 http//cgi3.ebay.com/aw-cgi/eBayISAPI.dll?RedirectEnter&partner=777701&loc=http%3A%2F%2Fcgi%2Eebay%2Ecom%2Fws%2FeBayISAPI%2Edll%3FViewItem%26item%3D4213928473%26category%3D378%26ssPageName%3DADME%3AB%3AEF%3AUS%3A1 Title of item U.S. Coast Guard and Revenue Cutters, 1790-1935 by D... It was built in 1908 in England. I don't know the original name. 200 ft. long and 1,800 tons. That's all I know about it. I can't seem to find any images other than one painting of the attack. I have no idea how accurate it is. Any help greatly appreciated. Ed Bertschy ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 9) From Ned Barnett Subject History Channel Upcoming From the History Channel store, the promo for my upcoming appearance on the History Channel, on Modern Marvels, June 4 (or June 3, I'm still trying to pin it down). Be there, or be square. This product is available for shipping in the U.S. and Canada (from the History Channel, and probably to anywhere from Amazon.com). >> They came ashore by the thousands, pouring from Higgins boats and dropping from the sky suspended from silk. Their path had been smoothed by "Huff-Duff" and "Hedgehogs," and their plans disguised by elaborate deceptions deploying virtual armies made from dummies and inflatable tanks. The heroism of the soldiers at D-Day is the stuff of legend, and their incredible accomplishments were helped by a host of remarkable devices, machines and weapons. MODERN MARVELSŪ shines the spotlight on the array of inventions that made the epic invasion possible, telling the stories of their development and following them into combat in the greatest invasion in history. From parachuting mannequins to pole charges, amphibious DUWKS trucks to Rhino Barges, D-DAY TECH is a fascinating look at the hardware that helped free Europe from Hitler's grasp. << ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Check out the SMML site for the List Rules, Backissues, Member's models & reference pictures at http//smmlonline.com Check out the APMA site for an index of ship articles in the Reference section at http//apma.org.au/ ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- End of Volume
