Lombard" Subject Re NON-fictional SEAVIEW From Darren Scannell >> Stay calm people, we don't want a riot here. Please ignore any posts stating that the Seaview is fictional. Evil beings are spreading misinformation and as soon as I get my ray gun back from the shop, I'll deal with them in the usual 50's and 60's style by zapping them back to the planet they came from. And just to prove my reality, check this out http//www.fxmodels.com/seaview.shtml << That is a VERY COOL site! David N. Mattis" Subject 1.1 inch and 20 mm gun colors Still looking for guidance on the above but have gotten no response from this website. Bob Mattis ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 3) From "John Sutherland" Subject Re 1/700 Flush Deck Detroyer kit search I would agree with Gerry - the CW Ward is the way to go IF you can find one. Haven't seen one for ages. An available solution is to buy both the WSW Borie and the WSW Burwell and cross kit. The Borie has cut down nos 2, 3 and 4 funnels and a reshaped and cowled no 1. Burwell for some reason has 4 unaltered funnels (should have had the cut down 2, 3 and 4!) which is just what you need. Borie has the correct USN guns. Both kits have only two sets of torpedoes so all four will give you what you need. If the kit you are making was one of those that had a second 3in/23 forward of the bridge you can get them on the Skywave USN I sprues. What's left over would make a good base for a late war (WWII) British Town. WSW kits are stocked by most of the vendors regularly mentioned on SMML. John Sutherland Porirua, NZ ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 4) From JOHNEME@aol.com Subject Liberty Ships I hope that as the new Trumpeter and L'Arsenal Liberty Ships come on the market; we will see some write-ups on doing an easy conversion to civilianized versions. I am really interested in buying a few (probably Trumpeter, since multi-media has proved beyond my very limited skills) if it won't be too difficult to do post-war versions. Leeking very professorial. Were you wearing Argyle socks too? -}) Seriously, though, nice going. << Thanks for your "kind" (?) comments ... I assume you mean "looking" - especially when talking about landing craft and Rhino barges, I tried not to "leek" ). As a matter of fact, I did wear argyle socks - almost all of my dress-up-and-wear-suits socks are argyle. Thanks for not commenting on my tie (I thought wearing a tie with lots of WW-II airplanes would be a "GOOD" Idea - boy, was I wrong about that). IMO, the show tried to do too much in too little time - some of the good material was edited to the bone, to my regret. But the film footage of "Pluto" and the operation of Mulberry and Rhino were worth the price of admission. Next month, I'll be on a program July 28 (Modern Marvels - WW-I Tech) that is better paced, IMO - and contains a major segment on submarine technology, with which I'm very satisfied (I'm not only on-camera on that show, I'm a "historical consultant" - which means they sent me the script to fact-check, and the rough-cut video to ensure that the film clips showed what the narrator claimed they were, so I've seen it already). I'm also on tap for a History Channel/Modern Marvels program not yet filmed on "Submarine Disasters" - anybody with useful sources on that, please let me know. I'll be going from Hunley to Squalus to Trigger to Kursk (with lots of steps in between, including the Brits' lame "steam powered" subs, which sank with alarming regularity). Thanks again, Ken - I'm glad you were able to catch the show. All the best Ned ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 6) From Rick Heinbaugh Subject Binks Airbrush Availability Yup. I know about all the wonderful, state-of-the-art, 21st century airbrushes. I have been given several, in attempts to get me up to date.. My favorite is the Binks "Wren" model single-action brush that I bought in 1974. And now a couple of parts are showing wear and it seems the company is no longer around. Does anybody know of a place that still has parts for the Binks Wren airbrush? Thank, Rick Heinbaugh Seattle, WA ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 7) From "DUCKMAN" Subject ARK HOWDY YA'LL, AS YOU ARE WELL AWARE, I ALWAYS TRY TO GIVE ANY ASSISTANCE TO THE ALL THE FRIENDLY, LEARNED MEMBERS OF THIS GROUP. BEFORE I READ #2425, LET ME OFFER THE FOLLOWING I HAVE BEEN PONDERING THE FACTS AND/OR BELIEFS ON THE ARK THREAD SINCE IT FIRST APPEARED. AS I SAT DEEP IN THOUGHT JUST THIS MORNING, IT SUDDENLY WAS RIGHT BEFORE MY EYES. THERE IN THE DRIVEWAY STANDS A VESSEL CLEARLY LABELED "ARK". AHA, NOW I HAVE SOMETHING SOLID. THIS ARK HAPPENS TO BE 17' IN LENGTH, 8' IN WIDTH. IT HAS A COMPARTMENT FOR LIVE CREATURES, WITH CIRCULATING WATER. TOILET FACILITIES ARE ABSENT, BUT FOUR COMFORTABLE SEATS ARE VERY MUCH IN EVIDENCE. THE HULL OF THIS ARK IS ALUMINUM AND VERY FLEXIBLE. PERHAPS NOAH HAD AN ABUNDANCE OF BAUXITE ORE? IF ANY OF THIS IS HELPFUL, LET ME KNOW AND I CAN SEND PICS. NOW TO GET VERY SERIOUS, I HAPPEN TO BELIEVE THE WHOLE NINE YARDS ABOUT NOAH AND HIS ARK, BUT I CERTAINLY AM NOT OFFENDED IN ANY WAY BY ADDING THE MODEST LEVITY I HAVE SEEN IN THESE POSTS. YOU MEMBERS OF THIS GROUP APPEAR TO BE VERY MATURE ADULTS. LIGHTEN UP AND ENJOY A LAUGH!!!
