As luck has it, I'm currently reading 'Camera at Sea' published in 1978 by Conway. It has miriads of beautiful photos, amongst them a colour section with 4 photographs of RN subs (Trasher, Surf, Truant and HMS Graph (formerly U-570)) alongside the depot ship Forth. Surf in the midst of a repaint. I scanned them in and posted them here http//users.pandora.be/rmv/subs/truant.jpg http//users.pandora.be/rmv/subs/surf.jpg http//users.pandora.be/rmv/subs/forth.jpg http//users.pandora.be/rmv/subs/surf_trasher_graph.jpg Beware, files are largish (around 1 meg each). If they are too large, let my know, and I'll scale them down. (I like my pics scanned from print large, best way to avoid moiré.) I'll leave them there for about two weeks then I'll delete them. Bartolacci" Subject Re HELP What colour WWII Brit Subs? >> Seem to post this question once a year, without positive results, they do say perseverence works. So here goes once again a modeller friend is trying to find information on a RN WWII submarine kit he is building. Does ANYONE have information on British Royal Navy World War Two submarine colours?????? There has to be information somewhere on this planet. He has tried the usual sites Submarine Museum etc without success. If you can help in anyway please write to me.. book reference, sites, photos, vague notions.. HELP! << Have you tried the Sub Committee.com? Someone there may be able to help... The link is http//subcommittee.com/ Bob ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 4) From Fkbrown90@aol.com Subject Re D-Day I should know, but will admit to a little (O. K., a lot) of mental fuzziness. What does the stand-alone letter "D" signify in D-Day? I think it might mean Departure Day, but am not sure. Franklyn ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 5) From TATagg@aol.com Subject Last ship from Guadalcanal battles could be dismantled" USS Crescent City's Last Battle Old Guadalcanal warship will be turned into scrap -- unless some vets can save it. Click Here Last ship from Guadalcanal battles could be dismantled" http//www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?f=/c/a/2004/06/14/BAG0M75QU11.DTL ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 6) From andrew jones Subject IPMS Belgium & Holland Hi there just on the off chance I have sent emails to the above clubs, as I would like to visit their club while im over there & I have not heard back from IPMS Belgium & the email address i tried for IPMS Netherlands bounced back as rejected I was just wondering if there is anyone who might know or even belong to the clubs, where does the Brussells & Amsterdam versions of the clubs meet & when. If not, i'll keep trying & will give the old fashioned postal version a go thanks in advance Andrew ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 7) From "Phil M. Gollin" Subject Trumpeter's future plans I don't know whether it is "good form" or not to mention another ship modelling board, but the Steelnavy.com board recently had a message through Stevens International about a survey they were running for Trumpeter which MIGHT impact on Trumpeter's future plans. http//members.boardhost.com/Warship/ There is a blurb in bold at the top which states "Trumpeter Survey - Trumpeter has come to us for suggestions for new ship subjects, beyond that which they have already announced(see our web site www.stevenshobby.com for the complete Trumpeter list). They are looking into 2005 and beyond. Keep in mind that the last time we formally polled the modeling public, after the final tally was completed, Trumpeter went right down the list making or planning the top 6(some are in development but are as yet unannounced for competitive reasons). We would like to receive a list of suggestions based on the knowledge that any kit we recommend to them needs worldwide appeal, not just North American appeal, in order that they can sell enough so every project recommended remains profitable for them. If we can get a list of the top 6 subjects from as many modelers as possible, in both 1/350 & 1/700, we will tally these in a few weeks and add them to the paper survey we will be circulating through the hobby shops and at upcoming shows. Remember not to include subjects already on the Trumpeter list as future kits. Please copy your reply to stevensin@aol.com with "Model Kit Survey" in the subject." The thread has dropped of the Steelnavy board, but I haven't seen the survey mentioned here. There seems no reason why people on this board shouldn't stevensin@aol.com e-mail directly. As the e-mails would have been private and many of the related posts on the thread were somewhat convoluted, I cannot judge which ships might be in the running, however I voted for just 1/350th as HMS Hood Scharnhorst Illustrious class Aircrat Carrier (WW2) British WW2 Escort Carrier HMS Renown (WW2) RN County Class cruiser ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 8) From "Mike Kear" Subject Weapons for 1/72 WWII US Escort carrier? A friend phoned today to say he's having trouble locating weapons kits for the THREE 1/72 scale escort carriers he's building. He needs guns and sensors etc, and he's tried to contact Navyplan (http//www.navyplan.com/ ) in France but without a response. Does anyone know if they are up and going or not, or where he might get fittings such as weapons, sensors etc for this class of ship in 1/72 scale? To be specific he's building three Escort carriers of the US Casablanca class, USN from WWII. (He's already checked with the local guru on these matters, Allan Pew, who doesn't have everything he needs) Cheers Mike Kear Windsor, NSW, Australia Webmaster, Modelwarship 72 http//modelwarship.com ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Check out the SMML site for the List Rules, Backissues, Member's models & reference pictures at http//smmlonline.com Check out the APMA site for an index of ship articles in the Reference section at http//apma.org.au/ ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- End of Volume
