For example, take cruisers of Baltimore or Cleveland classes their carreers span a considerable era from WWII to the 90's, with many alterations, from the gun to the missile and radar age. Trumpeter, Tamiya, Hasegawa and many other are now mastering the design of ship and aircraft models which are then declined in many versions they just supply in the box the basic sprues along with optional ones as well as optional decals and paint schemes. One could imagine a "basic" 1/350 Cleveland or Baltimore hull with fitting and main armament, and then a large range of follow-on issues with additional/ alternate sprues to cover a basic WW2 ship, a Korean era with 3" guns, Vietnam and Cold War era with plenty of radars and missiles just imagine the extend of differences between an early, round bridge Cleveland and a late radar covered Little Rock... This could be done the same way for Fletcher/ Summer/ Gearing DDs, Iowa BBs, postwar Essexes CVs for the US Navy, but also for RN cruisers, carriers and DDs, etc. This would include modifications for ships sold to other countries, thus opening a market almost everywhere. In the 1-700 resin range, Combrig is just beginning this with their russian frigates for export market. Of course, everyone of us would love to have his favorite ship in injected 1-350 at the lowest price I would love to have HMS Renown or French cruiser Algerie in this scale, but surely Trumpeter would not invest so much money for a so small market. From a manufacturer point of view, this is certainly not feasible. We've been generously supplied with plenty of Bismarck, Hood, Iowas and Titanic from most manufacturers ok, that's great, but now we're looking for something else... and maybe we're not willing to spend hundreds of dollars/ euros in resin kits. I think its a great miss those large classes of ships are still unavailable in modern injected 1-350 size (Cleveland and Baltimore were the largest single classes of ships that size ever) Bruno Gire ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 3) From "Matthew Prager" Subject Re D-Day and H-Hour Military planners now use various prefixes while forming contingency plan timelines, including N-Day (notification of an operation), C-Day (commencement of the operation), G-Day (commencement of ground operations) and A-Day (commencement of air operations). Add to this TPFID (Time-phased Force Deployment) and you got the basic elements of a plan. Matt Prager ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 4) From "Graham Boak" Subject HMS Undine Continuing on from the colour queries of British Submarines, I suppose, but a little extended. I'm working on the Mirage kit of HMS Undine. The only photo I have of her shows her without a gun - the kit provides a gun. The kit also provides transfers for P.48 - which was not Undine. Undine was N.48 pre-war, and was lost early in 1940. She was based at Blyth, which gives me a nice North-Eastern connection. So am I correct to do her without the gun? Should she be in overall 507C dark grey? With or without black on the pressure hull? Waterline? Undersides? How was the number/name displayed on the conning tower, or elsewhere? Mirage also do Sokol, which is a Polish Undine. Presumably the kit will also do for some of the Royal Blue Mediterranean boats. Thanks for any help. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 5) From M Brown Subject Re D Day Didn't Ike in his memoirs say it stood for Disembarkation Day? Michael Brown ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 6) From Randy Ward Subject Re Glues and multimedia problem >> Before I spend time and money on more experiments can you guys recommend a good general solution or direct me to a webpage that has a good discussion on model glues for bonding to different materials. << Check out... http//www.thistothat.com/ ...for how to glue anything to anything... Cap'n Randy ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 7) From "Serhan Oflas" Subject Re D-Day Hi friends, D for " Double ", Day for Day so becomes Double Day. Because importance of landing day and its after, it could not too hard to find that code name ) If Allied forces stands on shores for two days no one will gonna beat them. Rommel was know that so he wanted to ditch divisions close to shore...blah blah blah blah...
