Go to www.kingkit.co.uk, click on the sprue at “search stock”, select category “ships” then “search” – wait a bit and scroll down. Do not select the brand name because the spellings on Kingkit site are always a little bit suspect. These prices are in my opinion pretty reasonable for a dealer in vintage kits, new prices for comparable-sized vessels are also GBP 8.99. And I couldn't have guessed that your interest was to quite a different ship, as this dreadnought is way out of my scope of knowledge. But I admit, I too often run into researches finding that a ship's name was used over and over again through the years (or ages) and that just the name is not enough to identify the ship in question, even apart from spelling. Maarten ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 3) From "Don Macdonald" Subject 1/96 ship parts I just went through this a bout a go.That scale is very common all most any body that says they handle ship parts will have what your looking for, Try looking for 1/192 LST ship parts that become's a big problem. OK I would sudjust trying Floating dry dock. or scale ship yards. or JD production those are the 3 that I will get a hold of if I need some something JD just came through for me on what I was needing at the time. Putting the finishing touches on the four outboard uptakes tonight. For the USS Wolverine (IX-64), according to the Booklet of Plans (Drawing H355-77, Sheet 2 of 9) Length Overall 500' 0" Length between Perpendiculars 485' 0" Length on Flight Deck 550' 0" Hull Beam 58' 0" Beam over Paddle Guards 96' 6" Width of Flight Deck 85' 0" Width Overall, Walk 96' 8" Gotta watch what you use because on some of the drawings the length of the flight deck, when added and compared to the measured scale distance disagree by 1 foot. For the USS Sable (IX-81), according to the Booklet of Plans (Drawing H363-68) and Drawing H363-2, General Arrangement of Flight Deck and Inboard Profile we find Length Overall 535' 0" Length between Perpendiculars 519' 0" Length on Flight Deck 587' 6" Hull Beam 58' 0" Beam over Paddle Guards 96' 6" Width of Flight Deck 90' 8" (in way of island) and 85' 0" fore or aft island (H363-2) or 92' 6" (5-N-13, Arrangement of Induced Draft System) Width Overall, Walk 102' 10" Mean Draft 15' 4" Bottom of Keel to Flight Deck 40' 0" Those last two are quite interesting for that means the Flight Deck was just less than 25' above the water. Must have been very interesting for a first landing at sea. And it was at sea for the crew received sea pay, but only after bringing it to BuPers' attention. NARA has a limited number of original plans, especially for the USS Sable, most residing only on microfilm although a nearly complete set of original linens from the conversion exist at other instituitions. Doug Wilde ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 6) From George Colleen Hargreaves Subject Re RN WWI Colours Ah, you too. I have thought to use WEM RN10 White plus black to make the various colour blends of grey from Alan Raven and from the Admiralty Orders. Then compare to the AP507 series of colours. Perhaps next winter. What intrigues me is the general lack of information, (or guesses!) on the colours used in the latter part of WW1. The pinks, greens, blues, mauves ect. David Williams mentioned in his book that there are faded colour cards in the records. I would love to see a good colour scan to see if the effects of ageing could be reversed with MS Photoshop. And just think, not even a hundred years has passed but we still know so little. Cheers, George Hargreaves Calgary Alberta ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 7) From "George Peat" Subject Re Wolverine and Sable (USN Great Lakes Training Carriers) Hi guys, Reference item 9 Wolverine & Sable, I have here in my setup a set of drawings for these carriers as well as pictures of them and the article which was printed years ago in one of the American magazines on the construction of a 1/72nd scale model for if I remember correctly the Great Lakes Museum.
