Any ideas? << Loren Perry used to make a decal set like this - check with some of his retailers to see if they have any stock list. Also check with Don at Loyalhanna Dockyard, as I know he was looking into producing these. However, from what Falk says below, they could be black, yellow, or blue depending on the date and what division of the Second Squadron she would be in. Which proves once again, if that were necessary, we do not model a ship, we model a date. And, of course, if she were a flagship from 1910 - 1913, she would (according to Jane's) have no bands. Falk Your sources show colors from 1902 through 1906. Do they indicate when the system (if that's what you can call it) went out of use? One notes the RN used funnel bands (white and red) during the same period for the same purpose, but they seem to me to have been discontinued well before 1914. As best as I can tell this also holds true for the KM for what I suspect to be same reason (ships that work together know who they are without any special marks, and there is no reason to proclaim the knowledge to anyone else). I have resolved this problem temporarily by running sideways and working on IJN Akitsushima right after the Sino-Japanese War. The photo which I used to finish Mecklenburg shows her without either funnel bands or nets (deo gratia!), and I'm reserving work on Pommern and Preussen until my photo sources are better. And now for something completely different AND WHILE WE GO ON WITH THIS DISCUSSION, WHAT IS ANYONE DOING FOR BOW SCROLLS? None of these pre-dreadnoughts rolling out in such wonderous profusion come with the bow scrolls which nearly all seem to have carried, some all the way through WWI. My search for a suitable material to use even as an illusion has not been successful. I have looked at model railroad PE and, even, heaven help me, paper lace at the craft store. Nothing comes in at even close to scale - and I am at the point where "close" is a very adjustable term. My vision is bad enough to be pretty tolerant. (And Jim Baumann dropping in at this point to say he paints his freehand under a microscope will not be at all helpful -). ) ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 3) From David Ian Moore Subject Re U 215 discovery Eco Nova Hyperbole aside- the wreck of ex U Boat U 190 lies close to one of her Canadian (HMCS Esquimalt ) naval victims near the approachs to Halifax since Trafalgar Day 1947. She was sunk deliberately after a year or so evaluation with the RCN after she was one of 2 surrendered at wars end. to RCN .(also U 889) The Ex RN training boat L 26 was also sunk in nearby approaches as a target but is also neither a war loss nor a U Boat. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 4) From "Anthony Jackson" Subject RN Type12 Rothesay Class frigates help, I had the fortune to serve aboard two of these ships, Brighton & 'Derry, I'm trying to find plans, kits indeed anything that will help me make a model (any scale ) of HMS Londonderry post-1979 refit with limited success. Does anyone know of a firm making a model hull for the type 12? Does anyone possess drawings? In short HELP......... Thanks in anticipation & frustration. Any ideas? << Check with Loyalhanna, http//www.loyalhannadockyard.com/ ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 6) From "raymond guy" Subject FAA Sea King Hi fellow Smmlies I know this is not strictly speaking to do with ship modelling but I feel that the Fleet Air Arm is an integral part of RN history and I have incorporated many FAA aircraft into my carrier display case.I am sure I am not alone in this aspect of our modelling despite those who decry wingey things, therefore I beg the indulgence of this group of non aircraft fraternity types to ask the following question can anyone assist me with the interior bulk head colour of the Sea King ASW helicopter. Thanks in advance.
