My understanding these hulls are coming out of the UK. They are smooth in appearance with no plate marks but have bilge keels moulded in. Does anyone know whose manufacturing them? cheers, Graeme Martin ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 2) From David Wells Subject U-boat Deck color question Fellow SMMLlies I'm finally getting around to finishing the most recent Monogram re-issue of the Aurora Type IX U-boat kit. Does anyone have a good idea of what colors were used on the planked decks of German U-boats? I took a look at the pictures on the U-505 website, and I couldn't tell if they were painted grey, or if they were just badly weathered wood. Any ideas? David R. Wells ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 3) From "RUSS SMITH" Subject Torpedo Nets Ive been thinking of building one of the preWWI battleships with torpedo nets rolled up on the sides. What are these nets made of and what color would they be? Does anyone sell brass 12" guns in 1/700 scale. Russ Smith ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 4) From JRKutina@webtv.net (John Kutina) Subject Navy NewsStand - Eye on the Fleet http//www.news.navy.mil/view_single.asp?id=16479 Regards, John Kutina ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 5) From "Paul Giltz" Subject Paper 4-stack destroyer models Not long ago someone was asking about 4-stack destroyers. A European company makes Paper-card models of three versions. JSC is a Polish company, they make 1400 kits of the USS WARD as she appeared at Pearl Harbor ( kit # 5/2003), USS BALLARD as a two-stack airplane tender (kit # 4/2003) and HMS CAMPBELTOWN both as a lend-lease ship and as she appeared when she rammed the St. Nazaire drydock. ( kit # JSC62) The WARD kit includes a Japanese sub, I-19, the BALLARD kit includes several PBY's and SOC's A "Google"earch for "JSC Paper model" should bring them up. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 6) From brownatfareham@surefish.co.uk Subject Etched Brass & Helicopter Does anybody know of a source of etched brass at a scale of 1144 (i.e. 12 feet to the inch)? Also naval helicopters (primarily Royal Navy Lynx, Wessex and Wasp) or indeed any other fittings at the same scale? Regards Les Brown ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Model club & SMMLcon Information ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 1) From Kurt Van Dahm Subject NRG Conference - Call for Models Those list members who are to attend the Nautical Research Guild conference in Portland, Maine in mid-September are welcome to bring a model or two. The models will be arranged in the vendor's room, similar to that at the Queen Mary bash last spring. This will be simply a display. There will be no judging but we all like to see other modeler's work. Any questions should be directed to the NRG Office Manager Val Slocum at nrg@a-znet.com . I can take email questions today until 6 p.m. EDT. At that time I will sign off this list for two weeks as I leave on vacation at dawn. General information on the conference can be found at http//www.naut-res-guild.org/ Membership in the Guild is not a requirement to attend the conference. Mickey Martelle Wellsville, N.Y.
