The theory being that any torpedo, aimed at the hull, would strike the net first and be prevented from contacting the hull. I believe that they did on occasion work, stopping the torpedo, but the penalty was a reduction in speed, and the effort required to rig the nets along the ships side prt and starboard. If I recall "Warship" published a few years ago described the system and its usage. I would have to look it all up though. Yours "Aye" John Lambert ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 2) From Graham Preston Subject Re US Battleship Hulls in 1/96th Scale Graeme, I have Loyalhanna's hull for the USS ARIZONA. As far as detail is concerned, it has all the port-hole locations, docking keels (not bilge keels), armour belts, propeller A-frame locations, and hawse pipe locations moulded on. I am going to have to rework the hull casemate positions, to get them to match the photos in Paul Stillwell's book on the ARIZONA, but overall, it's a very nice hull, and the customer service from Loyalhanna is really first rate! I don't know where the hull is produced, but as you have said, it looks like it's made somewhere in the UK. Cheers, Chris Preston, Victoria, B.C. Rico http//www.kbismarck.com ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 4) From Marc Flake Subject Re Torpedo Nets ...were made of steel links--kinda like chain mail. I'm not saying I've got the final answer, but I mixed some black into some silver for a dark metalic gray. I think it would match Humbrol's gunmetal. ModelMaster's Gunmetal would be too dark for my taste. Marc Flake ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 5) From "David N.
