I found a picture of it at www.de220.com/Armament/fire%20Director Pirie Sublett San Diego ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 3) From Iain Wyllie Subject wingy thingy modellers Hi Allan, I'm afraid anything earlier than the '30s is not in my field of interest so I do not know that of which you speak. I was referring originally to aircraft carriers, even those which were battle-cruiser conversions, certainly not battle-cruisers which as far as I can see blew up if hit by anything bigger than 6" shells, never mind being subjected to attack by aircraft which was able to sink the most powerful battleships of WW2. Ironically, the ships which stood up best to attack from the air were the armoured deck carriers of the Illustrious class. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 4) From "vern" Subject Navy Tankers I have details for the AO-143 Class tanker on the web and in my book See http//navy.memorieshop.com/Story/index.html And http//www.usskawishiwi.org/Plans/index.html Vern Bouwman vernb@memorieshop.com ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 5) From "Reid, John (AFIT)" Subject Re Any good model shops/places to visit in Barcelona? I don’t know about model shops in Barcelona, but there is a great collection of 11 models – i.e. the real thing – at the Royal Galley Garage – that’s not it’s name but that is what it is (can’t find its real name in books with me here, something like Artesanias Reales). It is in the flat part of Barcelona about 1 block inland from the port. The port also features a cable car which flies about 100m over the basin at which visiting warships berth – one can get aerial views without a plane (when I was there in 2001, STANAVFORCMED was in town so lots of good subjects). In view of recent terrorist events in Spain, be careful with a camera near warships. By the way, there are similar galley garages, with galleys, in Pisa and Venice – but the galleys in Pisa are ancient Roman, not medieval Pisan. John Reid ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 6) From "Harold Stockton" Subject G-class destroyer in 1/700 from Niko Models Niko Models at www.nikomodel.pl have released their new "G-class" destroyer as their ORP Garland circa 1942, at http//www.nikomodel.pl/garland.html . What one is struck by Niko's model of this class is the fidelity to detail that one gets repeatedly from this small company. It is amazing the amount of detail that is included in this new model without resorting to any extra photoetched pieces that are not included in the kit. Though I do not have an example sitting in front of me as of yet, I can only imagine what could be done with all the extras that White Ensign Models offers for this class of ship. With Niko's latest release or their ORP Orzel, circa 1939 at http//www.nikomodel.pl/orzel.html , one is able to build either a Polish or Dutch submarine of the early war period. Mr. Pawel Klaczek of Niko Models should be congratulated on their very strong and prompt release of all of their new models.
