Has anyone checked this out and can they tell me what the quality is like please? 1/72 U-Boat Wood Deck Kit for RVL #5015 Nautilus models Laser Etched wood deck for the 1/72 Revell U-Boat. These decks also include several resin details for hatches to make your U-Boat rise above the rest. Thanks in advance, Graeme Martin ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 2) From "George Peat" Subject Re 1/48th scale figures Go to www.sirmarmodelships.com they stock figures for that scale George ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 3) From "Simon Scheuer" Subject Re enlarging scale ship plans on a copier No one mentioned that you should check the scale of your drawing first. Verify a known dimension. Waterline length will do. Say you are doing a Cruiser that is 600' at the wl. The plan dimension should be 600' divided by the scale, 600 = 1'. If it is not 1' plus or minus say 1/32" then the plan is not 1/600 and you can't use 1.7123 unless you don't really care if it is exact scale. Simon Scheuer ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 4) From "Pirie and Kathy" Subject Re Color Questions Richard According to Groener, Vol I, torpedo boats in home waters were painted black from 1898 through most of 1916. In November, 1916, a dark gray was introduced, and dark brown or olive was used in 1918. Photos taken on May 31, 1916, show B109, B110 painted in the three gray scheme used for larger warships, but that may be only because of their size. Locating photos of V106 for the period you want to model would be best (good luck!) If I ever get around to completeing my own V106, I will use Polyscale "tarnished black" and some shading with their "grimey black". These are "lightened" blacks ("tarnished"is actually a dark purple-gray) which let some of the detail show through in something less than bright sunlight. I think there are members of this list who can give you more specific information, but I hope this general material will help. Pirie Sublett San Diego, CA, USA ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 5) From "Pirie and Kathy" Subject Re 1/48th figures Franklyn Squadron lists two, possibly three, sets of USN flight deck personel by Verlinden Products that might be adaptable. While you say you haven't had any luck with model railroad suppliers, I wonder if the Walthers O scale catalogue might have something in the enormous Preiser line. I don't have that catalogue handy, but I can check tomorrow. You might also want to check the ads in one of the R/C boat magazines like Model Slipway, or Ships in Scale, or the NRG Journal. Pirie Sublett ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 6) From "Don Macdonald" Subject Plans HEY all I will say thank you as well for the answers to Pat scale quesiong , I usely take my plans to quick print shop tell them what I need and They will usely do it , Or I will take size of the real ship and bring it down to what I want in scale , BY dividing the real size of the ship into the scale I want then times it by 12 that will give me the answer I need, Never had to go the other way thank you again and Thank you Pat for asking it will help this old Rustbucket if I have to do it my self, Have a grate week or what is left of it . O by the way on copy rights laws so far I have only ran into a problem once so far but I Thought I would throw it in if it ever happen to any of you. Don Macdonald The Portland Rustbucket ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 7) From Ken LeClair Subject Re enlarging scale ship plans on a copier Hi, One important point to remember, irregardless of the proper formula you use, is that most copiers will not copy to exact specs. I've experienced this many times, and on most of the copies one end of the hull was in error or on a plan with port, stbd, and top views, the port was longer than the stbd view. Just something to consider, but good luck. Ken LeClair Victoria, BC ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 8) From URUDOFSKY@aol.com Subject Re enlarging scale ship plans on a copier Are the horizontal and vertical magnification scales the same on all or any copy machines? Or is there some inherent distortion? ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 9) From "David N. Lombard" Subject Re Color Questions From Richard Sweeney >> I'm currently working on a Mirage model of the WWI German Torpedo boat V-106. Aside from Dark Gray, and not so dark Gray, can anyone give me a good Idea of what colors I should be using? << BTW, are you aware Mirage has PE for this? See You can get it from Usual disclaimer, I'm only a very satisified customer of Jadar. David N. Lombard Rossmoor, Orange County, CA N 33 deg, 48', W 118 deg, 5' ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 10) From "Robert Lockie" Subject Inumerate or illiterate? Given my inability to copy down simple numbers, it’s a good job everyone else who responded on the plan rescaling thread is more capable at this sort of thing than I – it should of course be 171.4%, not 174%….
