Foran" Subject Liners I'd Like to See In response to the current thread "Liners I'd Like to See", I'd second Randy Nugent's choices of Empress of India, Andrea Doria, and Queen Mary I. I'd like to see them all in 1/600 scale. The QM I is already available in 1/570 from Revell of Germany. I have the latter kit, though have not built it yet. Gold Medal Models makes a nice PE set for it. For modern cruise liners, they can be appreciated better from within than from without. One exception may be made in the case of the Disney Magic. This ship, although very modern, uses retro styling touches such as round porthole windows and black-painted hull. I would like to see a kit available of this ship in 1/600 or 1/570. Les Foran ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 2) From Rusty White Subject DIY Photoetch kit >> The latest Micro-Mark catalog has a DIY PE kit; I'll definitely try this out. << We were in negotiations with MM to include our Working With Photo Etch Parts "how to" modeling CD with the kit. I guess they decided it would add too much cost. I would suggest puchasing the CD to go with the kit, but I'm somewhat biased. -)) Rusty White Flagship Models Inc Home of the "how to" ship modeling CDs flagshipmodels.com ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 3) From "George Peat" Subject Re Revell Flower Class Kit Hi Guys, Reference items 1,3 &4 sure the GLS etched brass is more detailed than Sirmar, But unless you are wanting a museum, standard display model then if you want to use only the kit hull and GLS fittings for everything else and have a spare £400 + then by all means go for GLS. I'll leave you to work out for yourselves. APS Models in Oz also do fittings for 1/72nd scale in fact Allan specializes in that scale. Over to you guys now to decide what you want and what the bank manager [wife] decides George ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 4) From Graham Preston Subject Re Revell Flower Class Kit Good Day All, For everyone working on or planning a Corvette project, you should check out Bob Pearson's "Flower Class Corvette" web-site at http//www.cbrnp.com/RNP/Flower/index.htm. This is a very good site with conversion articles and reviews on the DJ Parkins "Great Little Ships" P-E sets, and Sirmar Resins sets. Hope this helps. Cheers, Chris Preston, Victoria, B.C. Regardless of scale, there are certain liners that should be modeled. For disaster fans, Andrea Doria, Morro Castle and Achille Lauro certainly have appeal. The Italian Blue Riband holder Rex was also a beautiful ship. And a personal favorite is the Matson liner Lurline. << This is a brilliant idea. It could be called "Davy Joneses Locker Series". Titanic, Lusitania, Morro castle, Andrea Doria, etc. Maybe even expanding the line to include smaller famous disasters like the boat in the "Perfect Storm" movie and the Mary Celeste, maybe even an SS Minnow ) Doug ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 7) From "Katz, Gene S" Subject Liner Models Heartily agreed! I'd very much like to see 1/400, 1/500, or 1/600 models of Rex, Normandie, Liberte, and most of the liners from the mid 20s and 30s to early 40s (between the wars liners). Also the armed merchant cruisers Jervis Bay and Rawalpindi and Kreigsmarine surface raiders. And, purely personal, my old Training Ship Empire State IV, ex-former Naval transport Henry Gibbins. 1/600 is a good scale with which to work, maybe 1/700 only if there were no other choice, but as the eyes grow older and the fingers less nimble, I think I'd go for the 1/600 or 1/500 scales. 1/350 starting to get a bit too large for easy display in a limited area.
