Woodruff" Subject Re Captain Nemo's Nautilus For those of you who may be intersted in scratch-building the Nautilus in it's various forms, the following pages should prove to be interesting. http//home.att.net/~karen.crisafulli/nautilus.html#infrastructure Kevin W. Woodruff ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 2) From "Allen Stevens" Subject Re HMAS Australia Many thanks to all respondants on the subject of HMAS Australia plenty of infor to be going on with although I will give the dazzle schemes a miss this time, most people see stars after a beer or two I see stripes zig zags vivid colours ..................! Regards to all Allen ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 3) From Randy Ward Subject Re Scratch Built Nautilis I built an N scale version in styrene and Squadron putty, some years back. It was the Disney version, based on the plans that appeared in a magazine (Scale Ship Modeler?). These are the same plans that crop up on eBay every now and then. The article gave some interesting history, as well as photos of the mockups for the movie. 'Seems that the design was one Walt's brother came up with the night before a big meeting on the movie. He was intending to take it to the meeting, but left it on his desk while he went to get some coffee. Walt came along, found the model, fell in love with it, and took it with him to the meeting. The rest is history... Cap'n Randy ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 4) From "The code" Subject Trumpter 1/350 Nimitz Hello List, Well as an old Airedale that used to work the deck of Nimitz I just had to purchase this kit.. I must say they did a pretty nice job on her... I was with VS-24 during Nimitz 2nd Med Cruise 1977-78 and this kit looks much as I remember her.. I don't think she had allot done between her first and 2nd cruise.. The aircraft are nice! Even the squadron makings are there.. They went a little overboard on her tiedown points on her decks but this can be worked with. To recreate the airwing I knew I will need IF-14s, EA6-B prowlers and more of what came with the kit... Are there other aircraft sets out there yet?? How about brass PE sets for her??? I want to make a waterline of her and I plan on going whole hog!!! I supposed decals for the 78 cruise F14s act will be to much to ask for.. I want to find some fine grating and redo her catwalks as most of it was grating and the steel deck was were the refueling and other hose reels were. Anyway I'm a happy camper as I've waited a long time for someone to wise up and cut a hull of this large class of Carriers!!! cheers Bill CODE ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- TRADERS, ANNOUNCEMENTS & NOTICEBOARD ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 1) From AAA Hobby Supply Subject Re U-Boat Type VII C detail question From "Daniel Taylor" >> The replacement items I have seen have been pretty good on pattern but the etched brass is too thin to depict the original accurately. Perhaps as a template??? << Nautilus Models (my company) makes a wood deck for this that is scale thick for the plastic part (at 1/16" or 4.5" it is too thick for the real items) and has the advantage of being wood so replicating the wear and texture is easier. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Check out the SMML site for the List Rules, Backissues, Member's models & reference pictures at http//smmlonline.com Check out the APMA site for an index of ship articles in the Reference section at http//apma.org.au/ ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- End of Volume
