While I'm talking carriers, folks, I'm seriously considering using the Trumpeter CV-8 kit to build Yorktown (CV-5) circa 1938. Anybody out there have any ideas on what I'll have to do to retrofit the Trumpeter plastic? I know of some of the differences between CV-8 and CV-5, but don't know what else I'd have to do to refit the early-war Hornet into the pre-war Yorktown. I'd be much obliged. jodie ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 2) From Graeme Martin Subject Model Ship Journal Has anybody else received their copy through subscription for this publication of late? After Model Ship Journal decided not to handle it's only subscription service at the start of 2004, Chris Decker of Trident Hobbies was only to keen to pick up the service and offer it to his customers. I paid for a two year international sub back in February only to have received one copy since then. Have I been duped or is this service just behind the times? Graeme Martin ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 3) From "Simon Scheuer" Subject Who is "EXCESS INVENTORY" I keep getting emails from "EXCESS INVENTORY" but do not know (or remember) who that is. Anyone know if it is a legit modelling outfit or trouble waiting for a place to land? Simon Scheuer Crescent, OK ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 4) From "DUCKMAN" Subject great lakes carriers HOWDY ALL, I THINK THAT A WHILE BACK SOME OF YOU WERE LOOKING FOR INFO ON THE ABOVE. TRY ATRECOVERY.COM AND CLICK ON CARRIERS. HOPE THIS HELPS, DAVID IN DIXIE ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 5) From "Matthew Prager" Subject US Armed Trawlers in WWII There were a large number of trawlers used in WWII for patrol and minesweeping duties by all countries. Does anyone on the list know how trawlers in US service had their decks finished? Were they stained, painted or left with clear varnish? Thanks in advance, Matt Prager ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 6) From "Allan and Crystal Plumb" Subject Re Renwal Kits From David Wells >> What is it about old Renwal kits that makes so many of us (myself included) so nostalgic? Flawed though they were, I can't help but love them. << For me at least, it's not just Renwal, but any kit we built back in the days before AMS and not-quite-the-right-reference, when ship quality was measured in number of aircraft carried and inches of guns (I mean, 2x8" is 16", better than a mere 14" gun. Obviously.) DLG-2 was my Renwal, but I also recall fondly the Airfix Victorious, the Aurora Seaview, and many other kits from those halcyon days when I didn't know what the #$%& I was doing... Allan "tanks and wingy-thingies at the moment, but at least one of them is a Kate" Plumb (P.S. No David, I haven't forgotten, I'm just lazy.) ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Model club & SMMLcon Information ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 1) From DRPREUL@aol.com Subject Important Annoncement - Scale Ship Model Contest As most of you know the 2005 scale model ship contest was cancelled at the Mariners Museum because of the cost factor and their involvement in the preservation of the Monitor.
