THE OFFENDING BOTTLE OF CA WAS THE THICK STUFF, ONLY BY NOW IT WAS REALLY THICK. I ADDED THREE OF THE LITTLE METAL TUBES (CONTENTS ONLY) AND PUT THE BOTTLE ON MY PAINT ROTATOR. IN 24 HRS. I HAD A GREAT THINNED CONSISTENCY!! THANKS ALL!!!! ONE OTHER THING, WHO HAS THE TRUMPETER LIBERTY IN STOCK??? DAVID IN DIXIE ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 2) From George Levine Subject Re Graf Spee >> What I know about the Graf Spee is that she used big MAN diesels for her propulsion. In those days the large diesels needed very pure lubricating oil. And because her lub.oil purifiers where hit and out of commission, she could use only the purified lub.oil and fresh lub.oil that was available. I think that her commanding officer took the only correct conclusion. << I believe that it is the fuel oil that needs purifying, not lubricating oil. George Levine Currently in Charleston, South Carolina ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 3) From "roger pearson" Subject Melb Clubs & Retailers Hi SMMLies, More questions. Can you please tell me if there are any Ship Modelling Clubs/Groups in Melbourne or Country Victoria and apart from Fleetline Models are there any other worthwhile shops to go to for ship kits and bits. I know the obvious ones -- Hearns, Vic Hobby Ctr, Hobby HQ. Cannot find the one in Latrobe St near where Daimaru used to be. No responses yet re the 350 scale Sydney, maybe it was a rumour only? ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 4) From "Harold Stockton" Subject S-boat decals For those who may have been yearning to spice up the markings for the Revell S-boat on 1/72 scale, there are The new Argentine manufacturer Condor Decals at http//www.condordecals.com.ar/ , and they can be emailed at fabianvera@condordecals.com.ar . Their first, 72-017, has four different S-boat markings; at http//www.internationalhobby.com/ihs/kpitem.asp?ItemCode=CON72-017 Harold Stockton ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 5) From "Harold Stockton" Subject U-boat and S-boat figures (resin) Hannants has announced that Czechmaster has released their latest 1/72 scale resin U-boat and S-boat figures. The first price is the EU price, the second is the Export price. I`ve been wondering about the Queen Mary II and I think that the builders/designers/owners have forgotten the rules about naming ships. That or they`ve been watching too much Star Trek. I thought that ships over a certain size were named after someone or something, and you don`t get liners numbered `II` at all. Yachts perhaps. After all, the `Queen Elizabeths` had persons as precedent, and the King George V (both of them) weren`t the fifth ships in the series. Okay, England has had two Queen Mary`s, and the original liner was named after King George V`s wife, I think, but we`ve never had a Queen Mary the second. Or is it me that knows nothing? Chris Tilley ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- TRADERS, ANNOUNCEMENTS & NOTICEBOARD ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 1) From Loren Perry Subject Re Trumpeter Nimitz >> You are right about the Mast behind the Island, it DID NOT have an 'X' shaped catwalk around the top until 85/86 at the earliest. Certainly not when built anyway. A good chance was it was fitted when the ship got Phalanx CIWS. (but I'm willing to be corrected on that). I'm surprised no-one else spotted this yet! << I spotted it right away and commented on this feature last week on the Steel Navy website and the Warships Forum. Design work for the GMM Nimitz add-on set (No. 350-29) is now about half-finished and already includes the older square-shaped catwalk (with rounded corners) as well as a correctly configured X-shaped catwalk. The Trumpeter kit has two of the legs on the X a bit longer than the other two, but all four were actually the same length. Loren/GMM ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 2) From Keith Butterley Subject warhipbooks.com Clearance sale Hi all, West Coast Models tweaking of the St. Laurent kit is finished and we are expecting the new PE fret this week.
