The author Josef Kaiser writes, and I translate freely, as follows >> have the pleasure to inform you today that two new book volumes are being published about the "Bismarck". I have received news in June from the publisher that has interest in this project. After quite a few conversations, the project is finally becoming a reality. One volume will be a photo album that deals exclusively with photo details of the original ship. I have made these exclusive photos available to the publisher and I have written the text for them. The technical data and historical details are touched only very lightly in this volume. It seemed more important to me to provide an explanation for all the things that can be seen in the photos. The other volume will be a photographic rendition of my own model of the Bismarck, as of the September 2004 status. The first volume will most likely be published in the present year, the second volume will probably be delayed until the beginning of 2005. In addition the firm will sell stickers (a silhouette of Bismarck) and posters. Please, pass it down the line!! The complete descriptions of the books are shown at www.museumsschiffe.de. This homepage was activated yesterday. Cordially greetings to all, Josef Kaiser << ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 2) From GKingzett@aol.com Subject Re How long is a plank Keith the quick answer is.......from one end to the other. If you want to be technical, figure it to be 16' to 24' full size. If your scale is 1600, your scale inch is . 0017", your scale foot is therefore . 02". A 16' long plank would be 5/16", a 24' long plank would be 1/2", why not split the difference, make the standard plank 3/8" which would equal about 19' feet in real life. You'll have to translate these dimensions into metric, my calculator has overheated with all these exertions. If you plan to show the end butts of the planks, you will have to see if you can figure out the pattern. I haven't seen Classic Warships book on the Prince Eugen, but I suspect there is a picture in there which shows the pattern. If you can't see one, neither can anyone else. Make a guess. A 4 offset repeat is probably what was used. Brian King's books on building model warships or Victorian warships shows what I mean. If you can't find that, let me know, I can make a sketch for you. Good luck Gary ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 3) From "Loren Pike" Subject Remove Duct Tape residue Since this is a "nautical forum", I should probably start this with "...this ain't no sh*t..." Regular Peanut Butter will remove MOST tape residue from solid objects, is not harmful to the environment, and after you are done you can make yourself a sandwich with the remainder!!!!! Some are small. http//www.towerhobbies.com/listings/cat-cat-b.html Also, at this scale, and for non-racing, low speed applications, you might just want to try making your own props. It is not too hard. You can even use epoxy rather than solder. << You might want to try Loyalhanna Dockyard. They carry the complete prop lines of Dumas, Prop Shop, Radestock, Raboesch and Rivabo. They have working props down to .5" diameter and photo etched props down to 1/4" Don LOYALHANNA DOCKYARD ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Check out the SMML site for the List Rules, Backissues, Member's models & reference pictures at http//smmlonline.com Check out the APMA site for an index of ship articles in the Reference section at http//apma.org.au/ ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- End of Volume
