Thanks for the feedback about the carriers. Obviously I am a rookie here. Two questions. What is the quality of Trumpeter models? It is a lot of money for bits that don't fit. Can someone advise me on the number of planes in 1/350 plane kits and how many will I need to do the carrier? I would like it to look fairly modern in terms of aircraft. John Mills ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 2) From "Pirie and Kathy" Subject Re Photoetch windows Tom Grant Line makes almost evry kind of architectural window imaginable in 1/87th. Detail Associates makes 1/87th windows for locomotives and cars. There are others. Check for the Walthers web page. Or, check with Railroad Hobbies in Roseville. Pirie Sublett San Diego ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 3) From "Kurt Van Dahm" Subject Photoetch windows Try Walthers – a model RR supplier – they have almost everything made for trains. I found some great plastic windows with great detail for a diorama I did recently. Their web site is www.walthers.com Take care, Kurt ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 4) From "Robert P. Mattis" Subject Prince Eugen Camoflage I am building the 1/400 scale Heller Prince Eugen kit and am looking for information on camoflage for this ship. Bob Mattis ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 5) From "Les Pickstock" Subject Re Photoetch windows Try the model railroad suppliers I know you can get PE windows for railroad buildings. HO scale is 1/87th. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 6) From "John Snyder" Subject Re Photoetch windows Hi Tom, Whatever is available in HO you should be able to find at William K. Walthers. I believe their web address is http//www.walthers.com If not, use a search engine to find them. Cheers, John Snyder ex-model railroader White Ensign Models http//WhiteEnsignModels.com ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 7) From "Rod Dauteuil" Subject Photoetched windows >> I'd consider HO scale photoetch details if I could find any. Anybody got any sources for 1/72 to 1/87 scale details and photoetch? << Tom, You may want to look for Grandt Line windows. They make lots of different window and door designs, and they're very finely cast. They're available through Walthers, or you could visit their site, http//www.grandtline.com for their full line. I don't think you'll find anything in the photoetched area for this scale. Rod ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 8) From Randy Ward Subject Re Photoetch windows >> OK, here's a question for the wooden ship builders in the larger wooden kit scales I have the Artesania kit, Queen of the Mississippi, in 1/80 scale. I have already figured out the 1/72, 1/76 and HO (1/87) figures and accessories will work fine for it, and have built some already. But I don't like the heavy, clunky, out of scale cast metal deck windows or doors Artesania provided, and there are a lot of them. I'd rather have photoetch windows, which would look better, and I want to find some close to the 1/80 scale. I'd consider HO scale photoetch details if I could find any. Anybody got any sources for 1/72 to 1/87 scale details and photoetch? << Tom, if this is the kit I'm thinking it is, it's nothing like a real Mississippi River boat. I cringe whenever I see these kits, as they rarely show the details on a real river steamboat, such as visor and breastboard on the front of the pilothouse, large windows on the other three sides, realistic smokestacks and 'scape pipes, hog chains and braces, pitmans and cranks for a sternwheel, etc. If you're interested, I can point you to some authentic steamboat plans and an excellent book on modeling steamboats, and some kits that come reasonably close. I was brought up on the river, and have been scratchbuilding Miss. River System vessels since 1966. As for cast or PE windows, all 19th Century steamboats had wooden window frames. 'Hope this isn't discouraging. Cap'n Randy ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 9) From AFisherJr@aol.com Subject Photo Etched Windows I'm unaware of any photoetched windows that size (it's been a decade or so since I gave up model railroading). But Grandt Lines offers an extensive line of windows and doors in HO scale. You might check your local model RR shop to see what they have along that line. Al ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 10) From Stein Jim Subject SEA WITCH I have just purchased Lindbergs 1/96 SEA WITCH. #813. It came without the instructions. Does anyone have a copy that they could scan or a review of the kit.
