The photographs certainly look impressive! Regards Les Brown ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 2) From Jon Warneke Subject Re Cold War Deck Plans Hi David, >> I'm looking for some basic deck plans for several USN Cold War era ships USS Belknap, DLG/CG-26 USS Truxtun, DLGN/CGN-35 USS Virginia, CGN-38 USS Mitscher, DL-2/DDG-35 (either configuration, or both) USS Farragut, DLG-6/DDG-37 (either configuration, or both) << Both Mitscher, Farragut, and Belknap are available from Floating Drydock in the following plans G-DDG36 John S. McCain G-DDG40 Coontz G-DDG41 King G-CG29 Jouett G-CG33 Fox The CGN's don't have released plans since all are nuclear-powered ships, and are still restricted by National Archives. The Navy has no copies of these plans (according to an FOIA request, all have been forwarded to NARA), and National Archives won't declassify them. Jon Warneke ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 3) From "Roy.McKay" Subject Italeri 1/720 USS Ronald Reagan Has anyone out there seen this kit yet? It's listed on their website (but no picture) and due since 'late summer' (FSM new kit list 2004) but I haven't seen it yet. Anyone know if it's a modified tooling or a repop of the Nimitz kit with just a set of '76' decals? Cheers, Roy p.s. I'm asking once again, any former crew members from Nimitz on this board, would you please contact me if you are interested in helping a 1/720 scale ship modeller who is currently suffering a terrible disease called 1/72 wingy thingy collection. I am trying to build CVW-8 in 1/72 scale. Lots of questions. Need help! ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 4) From George Levine Subject Re SS Young America >> My wife's Grandfather apparently either sailed or served briefly aboard the SS Young America during WWII. I believe this was a liberty ship, but I have really struggled to find anything, including pictures on this ship. Given the many models out there, I had hoped there might be a kit available. I have given up on finding a kit as I cannot even find a picture of the Young America. There are sites on the internet where veterans mention having sailed on the Young America, but no-one ever seems to have a picture. Anyone here have information? << The SS Young America of World War II is definitely not a Liberty ship. Liberty ships were named for deceased people who had made notable contributions to the US, while C2 ships were named for clipper ships. The SS Young America was a medium size standard cargo ship, Maritime Commission design C2-S-B1, built by Moore Dry Dock Company, Oakland, California, and delivered on 3/30/43. Maritime Commission Hull Number 286, Builders Hull Number 222. She was operated by the Mississippi Shipping Co. Length overall 459 feet 3 inches Beam 63 feet Draft 25 feet 9 inches Deadweight tonnage 9,200 Gross tonnage 6,200 Steam turbine propelled at about 15.5 knots The first ship in the class is MC Hull No. 183 Blue Jacket. Perhaps someone else on the list can tell you if a kit exists. I have a booklet with a photograph approximately 3 inches by 2 inches, specific ship name not identified or legible. I will try scanning to see if it comes out usable and send directly.
