The Sub Chasers covered in this book are, the US Navy's, 1917, 110 ft, SC-1 Class boats from WWI. Also covered are the 1914, American designed and built, Elco Works 79 ft 7in., British M. L.s ( Motor Launch ), which were the predecessors of the SC-1 Class boats, and powered by a pair of the same American Standard Construction Co., Jersey City, N.J. engines, that were later used in our SC-1 Class, which had three of these engines. These 1914 British M. L.s were the first purpose built "sub chasers" designed to counter the new WWI German submarine menace Art Herrick Westmoreland, New Hampshire USA Location 42 degrees 57' 47.4" N --- 72 degrees 26' 18.9" W --- Altitude 465 ft. Now I have learned much more about her, but one thing is still shrouded in mystery. Does anyone have details of her PORT side camouflage in this period? I have found several pictures of the starboard side, but the port side seemed not worthwile photographing for some reason! So any picture, or drawing or even sketch would be very useful! Thanks in advance, Maarten Schönfeld The Netherlands ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 5) From Fkbrown90@aol.com Subject Re Removing duct tape residue Once again SMML comes to the rescue. Thanks to all who responded to my query about removing duct tape adhesive residue from vinyl siding. I waited a little while to accumulate suggestions, but just before I started to try them we entered a protracted spell of rain, drizzle, fog, dampness, etc. here in the Boston area. Well, we finally had a decent day and I gathered my materials and had at it. First was gasoline, nothing. Then turpentine, a little results but not much. Next was denatured alcohol, which seemed to work fairly well. I can't say that the alcohol did the job exclusively, or whether the other stuff softened up the residue thus enabling the alcohol to do its thing. In any event, the siding now looks decent. It faces east, and I will let the strong morning sun work on the traces of adhesive that remain and some sunny morning give it another treatment with alcohol, using a stiff brush to help things along. The bottom line is "Don't use duct tape on vinyl siding", Franklyn ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Model club & SMMLcon Information ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 1) From brownatfareham@surefish.co.uk Subject Small Warship Group Our website - www.smallwarshipgroup.org.uk - has been updated once again.
