Allen Subject Angled deck Essex >> Since that Essex project has largely gone by the wayside I don't know of any future plans for James to release his aircraft. << Say it ain't so! Why? I wanted at least two! Gruuuuuummmmpppphhhh. Steve Allen ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 2) From "Reyna, Joe SPAWAR" Subject Re Status of 1/350 Korean-era Jets/Helos Fellow SMML-lies, Thank you for the information (got an order for some PANTHERS over to WEM). I do hope that James Corley will consider proceeding with his release of these aircraft. I've been reviewing the film "Bridges at Toko-Ri" (a GREAT film on the Michener novel, starring William Holden), and have been thusly inspired to convert a Trumpeter Essex to a Korean-War carrier. I'd appreciate any advice on specific configuration changes appropriate radar, carrier weapons outfit (I believe she retained her 5 inch and 40mm guns, but did she land any of her 20mm guns?), changes to the flight deck, superstructure. I've got an informative guide on the ESSEX carriers I obtained from the US Naval Institute, but if anyone has any photos (particularly color photos) of an ESSEX in Korean War livery, I'd greatly appreciate it. Cheers! Joe Reyna ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 3) From Björn Bäcklund <08-7862824@comhem.se> Subject Source for Sea King Helicopters I am trying to locate some 1/600 scale Sea King helicopters for a project. The closest in scale that I found are some in 1/530 scale from an old Revell kit. I also have some very nice 1/700 WEM Sea Kings. Björn B ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 4) From "James Davies" Subject Re H M S Tartar >> In 1944 the destroyer Tartar was scrapped by the Piorun at Milford Haven. Can anybody tell me what month this happened? << The info I have says HMS Tartar was scrapped in Newport, arriving on 22 December 1948. She was a Tribal class, laid down in August 1936 and completed in March 1939. Is this the same ship that you are referring to? Regards James ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 5) From "Kevin W. Woodruff" Subject Re HMS Tartar The HMS Tartar (Tribal Class, Pennant numbers F 43 - February 1939 - Autumn 1940 G 43 Autumn 1940 - February 1948) arrived at Newport, Monmouthshire for scrapping on 22 February 1948. I hope this helps Kevin ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 6) From test Subject Re 350th Aircraft in resin for ESSEX class carriers.... Nothing has 'gone by the wayside' as Ed Grune indicates. DML PANDA is hard at work researching and developing an ANGLED deck ESSEX, INTREPID, as a CVA carrier in Nam. The original question was for Korean War aircraft of which that has been asked and answered. Air wings of course changed dramatically a decade or so later and there will be full air wings for the Angled deck CV 11 project. This is going to happen, its ongoing. Release date is UNKNOWN to me. Just to re confirm, the angled deck ESSEX/INTREPID is and will be 350th scale. To my knowledge there is NO angled deck ESSEX/Intrepid planned by DML PANDA in 700 scale. Just remember, in both 700 and 350th scale you can still make a Korean War ESSEX, short hulled in late war variant, entitled the BONHOMME RICHARD. The project is now do-able at this time--- we have the Corsairs, Panthers and maybe Skyraideers....just need the Dragonfly helos. Ray in Canada ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 7) From "William H. Shuey" Subject Re Status of 1/350 Korean-era Jets/Helos? FWIW Someone should remind Mr. Corley that the Korean war was fought with straight deck carriers. The angled deck was a Viet Nam war feature. He should perhaps re-think his plans. Panther, Banshee and SPAD were Korean War aircraft. Only the SPAD was still around for Viet Nam. Bill Shuey Baltimore, Maryland ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 8) From Mike Potter Subject Re HMS Tartar From John English, Afridi to Nizam (World Ship Society, 2001) HMS Tartar arrived at Cashmore's yard at Newport, Monmouthshire, for demolition on 22.3.48. HMS Noble (ex-Piorun, ex-Nerissa) arrived at Clayton & Davie Ltd at Dunston on Tyne for demolition on 2.12.55. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 9) From GORDONBUT@aol.com Subject Re HMS Tartar The Tarter was not scrapped until 1948. The date for scrapping was 22/2/48. Gordon Buttress ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- TRADERS, ANNOUNCEMENTS & NOTICEBOARD ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 1) From "Lawrence E.A. Lee" Subject Trade - 1/350 Tamiya KGV - Toronto area Hello all, I have a partial assembled 1/350 scale King George V that I'd like to move out of my basement. The scale is too large for my urban home!! Some of the initial components have been assembled and painted, but for the most part the kit remains untouched. Anyone in the Toronto area who is interested in a trade of some kind, preferable something in 1/700 scale, please contact me off list. Come to think of it I have the two 1/350 modern US Navy aircraft set from Tamiya as well. They are opened but untouched. These could be included in the trade or as a separate item depending on who contacts me first. Many thanks, Lawrence ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 2) From Ned Barnett Subject Some neat books for sale right now It's more first-come, first-served - books about to go on Amazon, but available to you at 10% off Amazon's lowest price.
