Shane ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 2) From "Daniel A. Kaplan" Subject Re 1/350 Japanese Warships >> Does anyone know a good source of where I can find WWII Japanese warship models, especially aircraft carriers and cruisers, in 1/350 scale other than the Tamiya Yamato and Musashi? << To the best of my knowledge, there are no Japanese carriers available as yet in 1/350. Rumors persist that Trumpeter will move at some point towards producing injection 1/350 IJN ships. Also, I think Axis Models is starting work on a 1/350 Fuso. For the moment, virtually all other 1/350 IJN subjects are produced in resin. I can't remember which mfg (Classic Warships or Blue Water Navy) makes the following BB Kirishima, CA Furutaka, DD Akizuki, & DD Kagero. The Minekaze Co, in Japan, makes CA Tone; they also planning another release. Not sure if its sister Chikuma, or Chokai. An American mfg. is also planning to release Tone. I'm sure someone else can be more specific. Dan Kaplan ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 3) From M Brown Subject Re Cunard's Colours Anybody contacted Cunard & asked them the question? Michael Brown ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 4) From "Stephen Long" Subject Re CV-31 during Korean Conflict Update For some reason, the tail codes became mixed with the squadrons in Vol 2677. Here's the squadrons listed separately. Bon Homme Richard (CV 31) with CVG-102 (10 May 1951-17 Dec 1951) VF-781 VF-783 VF-874 VA-923 VC-3 Det G VC-11 Det G VC-35 Det G VC-61 Det G HU-1 Det Bon Homme Richard (CVA 31) with CVG-7 (20 May 1952-8 Jan 1953) VF-71 VF-72 VF-74 VA-75 VC-4 Det 41 VC-33 Det 41 VC-12 Det 41 VC-61 Det N HU-1 Det Regards Steve ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 5) From Björn Bäcklund <08-7862824@comhem.se> Subject Re Ocean Liner Colors (Cunard red) >> I recall that someone gave a close match in Humbrol to the Cunard Red but I don't recall which number it was, sorry. << I got this response earlier "I can confirm that QUEEN ELIZABETH and QUEEN MARY had black hulls. Cunard red changed very slightly starting with QUEEN MARY. Prior to that HUMBROL # 174 was the best approximation. After that a very tiny touch of yellow should be added giving a slightly more orange appearance." Björn Bäcklund ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- TRADERS, ANNOUNCEMENTS & NOTICEBOARD ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 1) From "lamkeel" Subject Rigging on modern steel ships Dear Joseph and other interested parties Many of my drawings off WWII R.N. warships of destroyer size and below include a seperate sheet which contains the rigging plans for the class. These are obtained from the original rigging plans and show the types of wires and ropes used to rig the ship. These usually include all the aerials, rigs for boats, guard rails, ladders etc etc. Note that the rope size is given as the circumference, not as one would guess, the diameter. It makes the model look busy or lived in. If I can find the information then I include it. Right now, I am working on the set for one of my early subjects, the late 1930's minesweeping sloop HMS Harrier. But the information is found with the vast majority of my drawings, be they destroyers, sloops, corvettes, trawlers or even submarines. (Even the lowley 27' 0" Naval Whaler). See my site at www.john-lambert-plans.com Hopefully I will meet fellow smmls at the IPMS at Telford on Saturday. See you at the White Ensign stand! (I'll be in civies as I'm demobbed and plain Mr.). Yours "Aye" John ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 2) From LHDockyard@aol.com Subject Re PE propellers >> George Oh from Sydney, Australia, here. Does anyone know if a range of photo-etched ships propellers in various diameters, is available? I have only seen a few PE propellers produced for specific models. If a range was available, the same propeller could be used on a small-scale ocean liner or on a larger-scale submarine, or on an even larger-scale torpedo or outboard motor. << We have a large selection of photo etched 2, 3 and 4 blade props. If you let me know what you need I can provide the closest match.
