Regards, John Kutina ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 2) From andrew jones Subject HMAS Australia (2) You can try the AUstralian Navy Historical Society.... i know they have scale plans, but not sure if they have the version you are after... no harm in looking at their web site.... link is on the SMML site & the APMA site regards Andrew ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 3) From Reynold.Oh@defence.gov.au Subject WW2 RN Barrage Balloon George Oh from Sydney, Australia, here. Does anyone know the size of a WWII Royal Navy Barrage Balloon? I presume that they were available in only one size. They were filled with a light gas (hydrogen which is expolsive or helium which is expensive - any info on which?) and sent aloft, tethered to the ship (usually a cargo ship) by a steel cable. The intent was to provide a hazzard for low-flying aircraft. This ensured that an enemy aircraft could not attack from too low a level, thus (hopefully) reducing its effectiveness. Barrage balloons are very prominent in photos of ships in convoy, even D-Day convoys. I ask, because my intent is to eventually convert (revert?) a Tamiya 1/700-scale Bogue Escort (aircraft)carrier back into a cargo ship fitted with catapult and Hawker Hurricane fighter on the bow, and a barrage balloon (probably scratch-built out of polystyrene) held aloft above the waist or stern (by a thin piano wire). I'm pretty sure that no balloons are available as an after-market product. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 4) From Olafur Sigurdsson Subject USS Nimitz Hi all, Yesterday I got my new USS Nimitz from Trumpeter in 1/350 I have two questions I would like to have confirmed 1. Can the model be built as an up to date CVN? I would like to build the model with Tomcats and Hornets. If the model is not the same what do I need to consider. 2. If I want to build the Trumpeter Kit as a differnt CVN, i.e. Eisenhower, Loncoln or Reagan do I need to change the Kit in any way are they identical? Thanks Olafur Sigurdsson Zurich ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 5) From Olafur Sigurdsson Subject CVN Support Wessels Hi all, Are there any 1/350 Kits off CVN Support Wessels on the Market? (Resin, Vac, Injection...) My favorite would be a T-AO underway replenishment oiler or a AOE, Fast Combat Support Ship. Thanks Olafur ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 6) From "Harold Stockton" Subject 1/72 scale vacuform Japanese midget sub For those who like to model on 1/72 scale there is the scale vacuform Japanese midget sub from Don's Model Works at http//www.donsmodelworks.com/wmprods/images/wmjs001.jpg , and at http//www.donsmodelworks.com/wmprods/images/wmjs001_ab.jpg . Though vacuformed kits may not be your favorite benue, this does offer an interesting addition to your 1/72 scale navy. This kit includes eight pages of historical documentation, period photos, newspaper clippings, and accurate plans scaled off the original midget sub. It has 13 cast metal detail parts, but currently (temporarily) no decals.
