Subject: SMML VOL 2695 Date: Mon, 06 Dec 2004 02:27:45 +1100 SMML is proudly sponsored by SANDLE http//sandlehobbies.com ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- MODELLERS INDEX 1 USS LANGLEY CV1 painting scheme 2 phalanx ciws 3 USS Hobson Camouflage Colors ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- MODELLERS ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 1) From Subject USS LANGLEY CV1 painting scheme I just purchased the 1/350 USS Langley and the instructions have no mention for paint scheme(early 1930's) for the ship or its planes. The model comes with the following types of planes F3B's, F6C's, and O3U's. Any help for how to paint this model and its planes would be very helpful. Joey Scigliano ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 2) From "Phil Fuss" Subject phalanx ciws One of our club members has a 1/35 scale Phalanx CIWS model. He cannot remember who made the kit or where he obtained it. None of the rest of us has ever seen the kit. Does anyone out there recall such a kit? Even better, if anyone knows where to obtain one, a couple of our club members would be interested. Thanks. Phil Fuss IPMS First Coast (www.impsfirst-coast.com) ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 3) From "Michael Eisenstadt" Subject USS Hobson Camouflage Colors Falk According to Alan Raven, "The Development of Naval Camouflage 1914-1945, Part V The U.S. Navy -- World War II," which can be found on-line at http//www.shipcamouflage.com/5_6.htm, the colors used were 5N (Navy Blue), 5O (Ocean Gray), 5H (Haze Gray), White, and 20B (Deck Blue--Revised). Raven adds that only three ships carried this scheme--USS Indiana, Hobson, and Tallulah, and that only Hobson used white. There are two nice photos of Hobson in Chapter 14 (Supplement) of L. Sowinski and T. Walkowiak, U.S. Navy Camouflage of the World War II Era 2 Fleet Carriers, published by Floating Drydock. There is also a nice color photo of here on-line at www.history.navy.mil/.../usnsh-h/dd464.htm. I've wanted to do a sketch of her Measure 15 camo scheme but those three photos did not permit an accurate rendition. If anyone has a sketch of this scheme, or has a camo design sheet for Hobson in Measure 15, I would be most grateful.
