I'd just like to say a big "Thank You!" to all who responded. My enthusiasm has been well and truly lit! A very Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to all. Regards, Chris Hughes ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 2) From "Quirk, Chris" Subject destroyers at pearl harbour/HMS Bachante Hi I am looking for some help for two of my current projects 1) what measure would USS Patterson been in on 7/12/41 2) what were the flightdeck letters for the Leander class HMS Bachante cheers chris ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 3) From "Frank Bowron" Subject Re Tribal base color Ref item 9 from Mac Dale concerning building HMS Nubian into HMCS Huron. The Pendant Number for HMCS Huron was G24. Huron was a 1942 'Improved' Tribal of 2000 tons whereas Nubian was an original 1800 ton 1936 build. The Improved Tribals were the same length as the originals but were one foot wider in the beam and drew an extra six inches. That won't be too much of an issue for converting HMS Nubian, but the Improved Tribals had a lattice mast instead of a tripod and carried 10 x 20 mm oerlikons - those differences will need to be covered. HMCS Huron isn't shown in Janes ATWFS of 1945 so I can't say what the colour scheme was. Merry Xmas, Frank ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 4) From KELVIN MOK Subject 1/350 motorizing components >> In addition to the PE and hyperrealistic 1/350-scale ships I'm building, I'm also building a 1/350 and box-scale RC 'fleet' for my girlfriend's son, and I'm finding that components are NOT easy to come by. << I had posted my solution on this subject sometime back in August or September (see SMML archives). I travelling in another country so I can't look up my archives and can't remember the name of the "minispeedster" RC boat kit (USD19.95) that will have all the components you need by stripping them off this toy. The toy contains two minispeedsters boats each with its own Tx (27Mhz and 47MHz- whatever the legal frequencies are). Each boat is powered by two tiny brushless motors with fwd and reverse functions, each on its own channel. It is steered by stopping or reversing one motor. There is no rudder. The motor controller-RC Rx unit is as small as a postage stamp and comes complete with a rechargeable button battery good for about a 10 minute run. There is more than enough room in a 1/350 ship to put in more batteries. This battery, Rx and motors are sealed inside the minispeedster. Therefore there is a seperate 4 x AA cell battery charger. The motor ON is by holding down the Tx ON buttons. I will have to figure out a way to have them always ON so that the 1/350 boat will keep running until I toggle that channel off. For a four shaft 1/350 ship I would combine the motors from two minisps to run off the same controller. The nylon propellers (and they even provide a pack of spares) was what caught my eye for I had looking for any that size for a long time. The size will be that in the Revell PT 109 and therefore good for motorizing that and the other 1/72 (S-Boote) models too. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 5) From "lamkeel" Subject Seasons Greetings to you all Happy Christmas and a better New Year to All, with thanks to Shane and Lorna for their work over the past year. My Web site is changing webmaster 'persons' shortly and will be updated early in the New Year with a large increase in subjects both warships and weapons available. Oh for more hours in the day! Every good wish to you all. Yours "Aye" John ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 6) From "Roy Knight" Subject Merry Christmas Merry Christmas from Iraq everyone at SMML. I hope that you all stay safe this holiday season. I have enjoyed reading about all of the new kits and books comming out, I was hoping that Santa would drop off a 1/72 U-baot kit but all I found under my tree was a couple of scorpions. I hope that all of you got the kits and books you were wanting and continue to build and read about ship modeling. Until the next post, keep building and stay safe Roy ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 7) From Jeffon10@cs.com Subject Re Narvik 1940 Interesting question wrt funnel markings. However, more fundamentally, what color were the decks? Was there a German insignia on the deck fore and or aft. If full hull, what was the underhull color? Was there a boot line? I have 4 Heller German WW 2 DD/TBD kits awaiting answers to these questions and no one out there seems to know.
