A friend forwarded a bulliten from Great Models Webstore, and it mentioned that Hasegawa is working on a 1/350th scale Mikasa. Does anyone have any more information, or know whether this is reliable? I will be in line to get mine! Jim Hathaway Honjitsu tenki seiro naredomo nami takashi-... Akiyama Saneyuki ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 2) From Ned Barnett Subject Re WW I In Colour >> Christmas brought to me the book World War I in Colour, ISBN 0 09 189782 3. This covers all of W.W.I and is based on film footage that a Sony team colourized. Chapter 8 is stills taken from the colourized film of ships. There are a variety of new images showing Queen Elizabeth class battleships both details and manoeuvring. There is also a great deck shot of what is identified as an Acasta class destroyer. There are Grand Fleet shots and details shots. Turns out you may also order the DVD of the footage that was shown on Channel 5 in England. Can anyone comment on the colourization process that was used? The water and flesh tones appear to be absolutely correct. Also did anyone see the Channel 5 showing? Is the DVD worth sending for? << George - I have seen World War I in color on the History Channel in the US - it was on the same week as my own "World War One Tech" program. The program is worth sending for - the colorization brings new life to the ancient footage. You can get it from the History Channel store online. All the best Ned ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 3) From Paul OReilly Subject USS Stein FF1065 DESRON Circa 1979-80 Best of the New Year to everyone. Can anyone tell me what DESRON USS Stein was assigned to for her WESTPAC tour in 1979-80? I was an exchange officer on board her and I'm about to start a 1/700 model of her. I'm thinking of using the DESRON crest/ badge as a backdrop for the base. I'm planning on showing her alongside a model of USS Dixie in an anchorage diorama depicting the time at anchor in Diego Garcia where we replaced the ship's screw. Apparently that was the first time that had been done since WW II. Thanks for your help. Paul O'Reilly ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 4) From "Daniel Taylor" Subject Landing Craft adendum Dear All A late follow up on a question that came up a couple of months back. Someone asked whether US landing craft flotillas carried British troops to their beaches on D-Day. My response at the time was they did not. Howver, I have come across a report in the National Archive, Kew, whilst looking through information pertaining to Sword Beach, of at least one LCI(Large) flotilla belonging to the USN. My research will be continueing through the other British beaches and I shall let you know of further flotillas and their numbers.
