Hi everybody, I just bought the Trumpeter 1/350 Nimitz and 1/200 Sovrenemy. Two things struck me 1) how nice is to work with bigger scales, 2) that at the box dimensions Trumpeter got to, with the latest Nimitz and Kutsnesov releases, also 1/200 WWII subjects could be managed. I think Trumpeter could define a new niche like Tamiya did years ago with 1/350. Let's think about a nicely detailed 1/200 Bismarck or Missouri. I, for one, would be willing to pay an adequate price for it (something around 350 $ could be appropriate). After all if you buy a 1/350 Tamiya kit and superdetail with P/E for everything it is missing/inadequate (planking/detail on upper decks, light AA armament, wall details) you will be shelling big bucks anyway. At least with plastic and 1/200 would put less strain on our eyes. Not to mention that a 1/200 Bismarck/Missouri would be really impressive. May be if we join forces we could induce Trumpeter to think about it. May be I am just dreaming to forget the tragic family problems I have. Ciao to everyone Luca Bevilacqua ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 2) From chris@libertyship.org Subject Liberty ship conversion into AKA >> Yesterday I thought that it would be a real challenge, and possibility to have one of the workhorses of Pacific war if... If I will made a conversion of liberty hull ship "Jeremiah O'Brien" to AKA (attack cargo ship). I have card model of "Jeremiah" and I'm asking you if anyone has any materials or data to make such conversion. << No Liberty ships were converted into AKAs, so this would be quite a challenge. The overall dimensions of a Liberty ship hull are generally similar to some classes of ships converted to AKAs, but the shape is very different. AKAs were faster than a Liberty, so they had finer hull lines. In plastic this would basically mean building a new hull from scratch, but you may have an easier time of it with since you are working with a card model. Once you have the hull figured out your problems will not be over. The superstructure and many of the other details will need to be heavily modified or replaced.
