My father had a card model import business in the 60s and 70s, and the quality on this one matches that of Schreiber or Wilhelmshavner. She is 1/350th scale, and would look great with photo-etch rails and a few other details. Jim Hathaway ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 2) From Ron Subject Re More Liberty Ships >> After reading this thread it got me to thinking about the Trumpeter and L'Arsenal Libertys. My father did a three year tour on the U.S.S. Tutuila ARG-4. I have some photos of the ship but no plans. Does anyone think a conversion would be a difficult job and where could I find plans? The Floating Drydock does not have them and I don't know where to start with the National Archives. I think it would be a nice gift to give him to celebrate the 50th anniversary of his enlistment. Thanks for the help. << At the Archives you would start with the Cartographic section, Record Group-19, then try by hull number first. You might have to go with the class leader's hull number and be aware that as often as not you'll need to know every hull number in the class (say 10 vessel class and the only set of plans they have is for the 7th vessel in the class). Be aware that copy cost is $2.70/linear foot. If you're not near NARA you can pay a researcher to look for you but you pay whether there are plans or not for the guy's time. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 3) From "Robert Lockie" Subject IJN destroyer camouflage This is well outside my usual area of interest but I know there are SMMLies who deal with IJN matters. I was trawling through 400+ colour images of what claim to be WW2 naval subjects (although some are dated post-war) on www.ww2incolor.com/gallery/us_navy/ when I found numbers 174-177 to be of the salvaged IJN destroyer Kikutsuki. What caught my attention was the evident disruptive geometric pattern it carried and I wonder if this was common. I know next to nothing about the IJN, particularly the DDs, so this may be old hat to those of you familiar with the subject but I thought it was worth mentioning. Robert Lockie Swindon UK ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 4) From URUDOFSKY@aol.com Subject Re Card models I have not built a card model for more than 60 years, but what I saw not long ago, at first hand, was the present Digital Navy models and the CAD techniques used in design and print these exquisite models http//www.digitalnavy.com/html/ships.html It looks like the building method is still very much the same as it was when I used to build them when I was only 8 years old. Ulrich Rudofsky ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 5) From Donsrcships@wmconnect.com Subject Can any one help and up date? Another company in Germany,I forgot the name made brass-barrels in all calibers (from 2cm Flak to 38cm guns) fur the Wilhelmshaven models.
