The website is that of an association called "Associazione Navimodellisti Bolognesi" and they do have an impressive list of plans (VERY DETAILED) for many classes of ships and subs. I live in Bologna and if you are interested in one or more of their plans I can contact them for you and give you all the details. Hope this helps Ciao from Italy Mirko Zerbini ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 2) From Randy Ward Subject Re SS Canberra From >> My family immigrated from France to Canada in 1954 on the SS Canberra. A search of that name on the internet shows picture of a modern vessel built in the 1960's. Where can I find information on the original ship SS Canberra? Anything you can do to piece together this part of our history would be greatly appreciated. << Robert In checking my files, I found a history of the 1961 Canberra, which states "In March of 1958, it was publicly announced that she would bear the name Canberra, an aboriginal word meaning ‘meeting place by the water’." As there is no mention of an earlier Canberra, I would suspect that that they immigrated on another ship of a different name. The 1961 Canberra was well-known, so it's possible that they might have gotten the names confused. Cap'n Randy ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 3) From "Daniel Taylor" Subject Hunt Class Escort Destroyer In response to Chris Quirk's question >> I would like to attempt a Hunt Type 3 using the 1/700 BResinsa Type 2, I am not sure if the aft deckhouse needs to be repositioned further aft to make room for the torpedo tubes fitted amidships, any advice or suggestions much appreciated! << Dear Chris I've had a look at two sources on this subject 1. Alan Raven & John Roberts' 'Man O' War' No4 - Hunt Class Escort Destroyer; & 2. John English's 'The Hunts'. The conversion seems to be a little more awkward than suggested. Yes, the deckhouse is further aft and in 1/700 the difference appears to be 5.5mm. Additionally, the emergency steering position/searchlight position is further aft - 3.5mm ahead of the deckhouse (assuming that it does not have the forward extension). The pom-pom position is mounted further forward (only by 1mm) which is possible because the funnel is narrower in chord and vertical instead of raked. I have shipyard plans of both types (a little excessive in 1/700 probably) but am in the middle of an office move and so cannot get at them for a couple of weeks. When I can, I can check these measurements. If you would like further information please contact me offlist and I'll see what I can do. All the best Dan Taylor ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 4) From ALROSS2@aol.com Subject MAINE kit site updated Six new photos have been added to the MAINE kit site (alross20.tripod.com/mainekit). I just finished the 1/192 ATLANTA, so am back on the MAINE display model. Should be finished in a few weeks. Al Ross ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 5) From "GRAHAM WALKER" Subject Re SS Canberra SS Canberra was built till 1961, SS Caronia was in service was painted in a green liverly in 1949. Hope this helps http//www.greatoceanliners.net/index2.html of course it could be one of the canadain liners. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 6) From "Doug Wilde" Subject Re Fowler Wheel Patent Alright, I provided the wrong patent number. The correct number is 65202, issued 28 May 1867. The 3113 number is handwritten on the reissue dated 08 September 1868, and obviously is not correct. It should have been RE3113. I appologize for any inconvenience this has caused. Doug Wilde ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- TRADERS, ANNOUNCEMENTS & NOTICEBOARD ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 1) From David Wells Subject Rajen's List Fellow SMMLlies I'm planning on releasing Version 6.4 of Rajen's List on March 1, 2005, so this is my last call for reviews. If you're wondering what the List is, take a look at Version 6.3 at http//www.quuxuum.org/rajens_list/shiprevs.html Version 6.4 is significantly expanded, with lots of new and old kits added. There are still plenty of unreviewed kits out there, so please send me your reviews! "There seems to be something wrong | David R. Wells with our bloody ships today" | Adm. D.
