Can the ALABAMA kit be far behind? Brooks A. Rowlett ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 2) From "Impenna, John" Subject Queen Mary Armament Layout Hi Folks, Can anyone point me to a source for the armament layout of the Queen Mary when fitted out as a troopship? I am trying to put together enough reference for a wartime build of her and the Queen Elizabeth. Any help would be most appreciated!! Regards, John Impenna ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 3) From "Darius Przezdziecki" Subject Re exploding Battlecruisers In Vol 2761 Nick Rogers wrote >>....... Admiral Beatty's devotion to rapid fire rates rather than accuracy and safe cordite storage appears to have been disasterous << While this is undoubtedly true, Beatty wasn't the only one who tolerated this state of affairs. I have read quite a few accounts of the life aboard RN warships during WWI where it is mentioned again and again that gun crews of ships ans well as crews of individual turrets of each warship competed with each other who will be the first to load and ready their guns. This practice was not only tolarated but encouraged by gunnery officers who really should have known better. It is ironic that Beatty's battlecruisers might have been shooting fast but they weren't terribly effective... The 5th Battle Squadron performed much more creditably where % of shell fired to hits achieved is concerned. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 4) From Ives100@aol.com Subject Re Alanger Russian Submarines >> by e-mail confirmed that these models are injection molded plastic in 1350 scale. << There was some confusion from the catalog numbers which had a 400 prefix if these were 1350 or 1400 scale. Sounds as if you have the 1350 confirmed. Thanks! Hi SMMLies, Back fitting the Trumpeter Lex. I'm planning on re-working mine to a mid 30's Sara, love that vertical stack stripe./ I'll have to see if someone comes out with the 8" guns and if not I'll make my own pattern. There is allot of things needed to be done to correct it as a 42 Lex so I figure I may as well make it what I really wanted. I've used them on my Revell U-boat and they look absolutely great! They are in metall. Enjoy! Is there an accurate set of after-market guns available to replace those supplied in the 1/72-scale Flower-class Corvette? Or good photos of them (the book Canada's Flowers has a good photo of the secondary gun). Or a article that suggests how to detail the kit items? 2. I believe that the secondary gun at the waist of the Flowers was a single-barreled pom-pom. Is it a crime to replace it with a Bofors 40mm cannon (the Airfix 1/76(?)-scale one is a lot more detailed than the kit-supplied item)? 3. Does anyone have info about the pom-pom. I believe that it was available to the RN in 1-, 4- and 8-barreled versions, and possibly that it was a 40mm-caliber weapon. If so, did it use the same ammo as the Bofors gun. Was the US Navy's 4-barreled AA weapon a 4-barreled pom-pom, a 4-barreled Bofors gun, or something entirely diffrent? They seemed to be loaded with 4-round clips similar to the British Bofors gun. Many thanks. George, out.
