Many questions were instantly laid to rest...yes it is the original Kearsarge and not a re-boxed Alabama. The box is larger than the 1961 version but the contents are identical save that the coppering isn't prepainted. The detail is sharp...so much for the theory that "the mold was broke!" As I blissfully contemplated the kits parts nested in their individual compartments with teutonic precision, alas, a crumpled petal crept into my bed of roses...it finally dawned on me that the reason the hull halves fit so neatly into the box was that fact that there were two left halves! I'm sure that Revell will get on top of this minor problem but so far it's Early Bird 0 Worm 1! You may want to wait a bit before placing your order! << Joel, I had a missing part from a Revell Germany Gneisenau kit awhile back. (OK, it wasn't just missing...I lost the damn thing myself!) I sent RG a letter with US$3 requesting a replacement. Not only did they send the part to me in record time but my three bucks were in the package along with the part! Revell Germany may have QC problems from time to time, but their customer service is first rate. Contact them about your Kearsarge hull; I'm sure they'll do right by you. Tim Reynaga ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 3) From "Glenn and Kelly Neklason" Subject USS Monitor/CSS Virginia Brett I don't know if there's any painting tips here, but it's an interactive site with a lot of good information about the Monitor and the Mariner's Museum here in Newport News. The Mariner's Museum is home for the Monitor's artifacts. Newport News Shipbuilding & the US Navy are building a full scale replica of the USS Monitor, set to open in 2006. The keel was laid last Sunday. www.mariner.org Glenn ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 4) From ConnellyTG@aol.com Subject NEW Website www.ptboatworld.freewebspace.com Garth ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 5) From THEGAVEL@aol.com Subject Minor Quality Assurance Problem With the Re-Release of the Revell Kearsarge Having the day before returned "the wrong item sent" for the second time (they did at least send a different wrong item both times) I read with sinking heart the "two left hulls" problem with the Re-released Revell Kearsarge in Vol. 2777. So it was out to the garage, open the box, check the hulls, recheck the hulls and re-recheck the hulls to ensure that I didn't have the same problem (or two right hulls which no doubt some other unlucky soul will discover). I had a friend who worked a summer job decades ago packing soap dispensers (you know the kind in the men's room that you hit on the bottom and it gives you a squirt of liquid soap) only to discover just before leaving that all summer he had been putting "A" parts and "B" housings together as instructed except that he had used 1A parts and 2B housings instead of 1A and 1B or 2A and 2B. Hopefully, the Revell minor problem is not of the same nature and no one will return two left hulls only to receive two right-side ones!
