I recently discovered that White Ensign Models (WEM) had been making resin USN WWII aircraft in 1/500 scale. I immediately bought some of the last two examples remaining in stock; their "FlightDeck 500" SBD Dauntless and TBD Devastator. However I appear to have missed out entirely on several other "FlightDeck 500" planes which WEM apparently used to make, including (at least) an F6F Hellcat and TBF Avenger. If anyone has a spare(s) of these latter aircraft, and also F4F Wildcat and SB2C Helldiver - if these ever existed in 1/500 scale - I would very much like to purchase, trade or even just borrow them, to get a good look at them "in the flesh", so to speak. Any help greatly appreciated; please e-mail me at the above address. Cheers, Matty ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 2) From andrew jones Subject Titan crane Hi there i seem to recall the link below has all the drawings for anything Cockatoo island..I too would like to a model one day of the crane..or if you get yourself a big enough salvage team, im sure you can still get it off the bottom of the ocean ha ha http//www.naa.gov.au/Publications/research_guides/guides/dockyard/chapter03.htm I have never used the above service, so dont know how good the plans are etc regards Andrew ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 3) From "Bruce Buchner" Subject Re USS Monitor & CSS Virginia, I'm seeking painting & construction hints I have both kits and the problem with trying to do a diorama with both of them is the Monitor is as modified after the battle with the sloped armor that was added to the pilot house. The original pilot house was a raised square box on the deck and during the battle the Captain was almost blinded by a hit on the pilot house. After the battle they added the sloped armor to deflect balls upward. The problem is the pilot house on the kit is cast directly into the deck and removal and replacement with the early pilot house will cause a lot of damage to the beautifully detailed deck. I have been disappointed with the accuracy of the Verlinden kits. The CSS Atlanta has the starboard gun position in the wrong position (Should be abaft the funnel in the center of the ship so the guns would not recoil into each other.) and the box photo which was the only instructions that came with mine show eight guns when it only had four. It took only five minutes on the internet to find the Navy History site that has a set of plans made by the Navy when they captured her. The master work and the casting on the Verlinden kits have been first order but there seems to have been no attempt at accuracy. My two cents. Bruce Buchner ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 4) From "Doug Bauer" Subject German sea mines I keep seeing references to German WWII S-boats carrying mines....are these the same mines as laid by DKM destroyers or smaller? I really can't see a small S-boat carrying such a large mine. Does anyone know what kinds of mines the S-boats were capable of carrying/laying and what the mine's diameter would be? I'd like to build my Revell S-boat a little differently from all the others. TIA Doug Bauer Poway, CA ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 5) From vk4bdq@tpg.com.au Subject Liberty Ships Hi. I am looking for drawings or pictures from the original Liberty ships. As far as I know Revell made once a kit. Can someone help.
