Very nice build up of the 1/72 scale u-boat at dock loading torpedos. Dorama catagory ( I will have to get a picture for his gallery ) His question is can he show this same model at a show next month? Both shows are under IPMS rules as far as we know. << IIRC there are only a couple of restrictions. If a model places (1st, 2nd, 3rd) in an IPMS sanctioned regional convention it can no longer be entered in that regional. You may take it to another region's convention, but again once it places it's done. Once a model has placed (1st, 2nd, 3rd) at an IPMS Nationals, it is ineligible to be enter either another nationals or subsequent regional. There are a couple of exemptions. One being that you may incorporate a regional/nationals winner into a group entry or a collection entry. As far as local IPMS shows that aren't a regional, it depends upon the rules that they have for their show. Some will allow prior regional or national winners to compete in a special "masters" category. More often they'll just let you display the model but not enter it in competition. Personally I make it my own policy not to enter a model that has won a contest in that same contest again, but that's just me. Cameron ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 2) From "KLW" Subject Re IPMS rules He most certainly can. IIRC, only models which win in Nationals are prohibited from competing in lower level competitions. Good luck to him. Kevin in Phoenix ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 3) From JRKutina@webtv.net (John Kutina) Subject Etched brass railings Need help. What is the best glue and best way to attached brass railings to resin hulls? Thank you. Regards, John Kutina ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 4) From "Loren Pike" Subject U-Boat & IPMS contest rules Bill, Unless the rules have changed, you can always go "sideways" (shows of a similar nature like a "local" show), upwards, for example to a regional or IPMS/National show. Once you win at these higher levels, (example win at the Nationals) the model should be "retired" and cannot/should not be entered back in a local show or regional forever. I'd check on the IPMS website to get the entire "...yarn". Loren A. Pike IPMS/USA #10921 ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 5) From Rusty White Subject IPMS/USA Rules Have your friend check the shows rules. While IPMS/USA rules are pretty much standardized now, they allow lee-way for local and regional contests in these matters. Most of the time, the only models not eligible would be previous regional winners (from the same region), and IPMS/USA Nationals winners, but as I said that is left up to the descretion of the host chapter. It's always best to get a copy of the contest rules and check it out for yourself. The host chapter probably has a web site somewhere where the rules are posted, or you can write to get a copy. Go to the IPMS/USA web site (IPMS/USA.org) and look under "events gallery". If the contest has a web site, it will probably be there. Hope this helps. Rusty White Head IPMS/USA Ship judge ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 6) From AAA Hobby Supply Subject Re IPMS rules IPMS rules vary from local show to local show. Check with the host chapter and find out. The rules are almost universally printed in fliers and posted to club websites. Usually a model can be entered multiple times simply because knowing which won what where is too big a headache to keep track of. The only rule usually enforced is that a model that wins at a regional is banned from a local, and a model that wins at a national is banned from the regional and local. Some chapters flex this rule somewhat by allowing them to be entered in the same calendar year to give the modeler the benefit of the doubt if he finished one just in time for the nationals in the summer and still wants to haul it around to the fall shows, but that is a very rare exception. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 7) From "keith bender" Subject Re IPMS hi SMMLies, As far as I know you can enter the same model in as many shows as you'd like. Now most shows won't let you enter the same one twice if it has won there once but you can go from one show to another and line your walls with plaques and trophies till you drop as long as it isn't the same show with the same model, KTB ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 8) From Bill Michaels Subject Re IPMS rules Depends on the rules of the local show. Here in New England, most clubs prohibit trophy winnners form regional or national level IPMS competitions. Each show also has slightly different rules for models winning awards in other clubs. Some of the variations "No previous first place winners form our show" "No previous first place winners from any show" "No previous first, second, or third place winers from our show." "Models winning an award at a previous show must be entered in the masters category." The idea is to prevent people from building a killer model and bringing it back year after year. Most clubs in only prohibit winners from their own previous shows, for a couple of reasons - No way to really enforce it- how could you know for sure if a model won a prize in another club's show? - We have four shows in an 8 week period-- many build a collection of models for the fall season, and enter them at each show. - Judging is variable- I've taken first, third, and failed to place with the same model during a contest season. Unless the rules of the contest you are considering expressly prohibit 2nd place finishers form other shows, I'd say your friend's model is as eligible as any other model .... Bill ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 9) From M Brown Subject Frigate Bridge Conversions Does anyone happen to know where & when HMS Caprice, Caesar, Cambrian & Cassandra received their frigate bridge conversions? The result was a fully enclosed bridge on these veteran destroyers. The only C class destroyers to receive such a modernization. Michael Brown ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 10) From "Mason, Jeff" Subject Photo of the Mighty Hood Been away for a few days, just saying thanks for the input on the photo of HMS Hood. I apologise if this has been gone over before but it was new to me. Wherever it was taken it is obvious it was not in the Denmark Straight. Right or wrong I am going for Mers el Kabir .. Cheers Jeff Mason ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 11) From ZMzimmerman@cs.com Subject IPMS Rules Most IPMS clubs only prohibit an entry if your model has won at the IPMS Nationals or if it has won at their contest before. The club holding the contest will have that information listed in the contest rules.
