(Japanese) I would be willing to pay any reasonable price- if someone has knowledge of a copy, or has one and wishes to sell it, please contact me off list- Jim Hathaway hathaway@peoplepc.com Thank you! ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 2) From Mark McKellar Subject Angle Deck Midway or Essex Class Carrier Hi folks, Over the years I've built up a nice set of US carriers - from pre-WWII to CVX. It was a really fun project and it's neat to see the development and changes made in each succeeding class. The thing is, I don't have an angle deck until the Forrestal. I've been unable to locate an Essex or Midway class kit in 1/700 or 1/720 except the OOP Jim Shirley kit (and even if I could find one - I'm not willing to part with that kind of money). I can't be the only modeler who would like to build one of these can I? Is anyone planning on issuing a kit of this ship type or have I missed one? Mark Boston ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 3) From JRKutina@webtv.net (John Kutina) Subject Welcome to Sea Port Model Works http//www.seaportmodelworks.com/ Regards, John Kutina ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 4) From charles Huet Subject Re 1/96 stanchions I made 1/96 stanchions by drilling a .047 hole in an aluminum plate using a stop against one side of the plate. I then drilled .024 holes perpendicular to the .047 hole (using the stop on the drill press) spaced so I can make 2, 3, and 4 bar rails. I make the rails by placing .040 round styrene into the .047 hole. I drill the styrene using the .024 holes. I then thread .020 brass round stock trough the .040 stanchion. Using brass allows me to make any bends and results in stronger railings. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 5) From "Gary Mansfield" Subject BRITISH HUMAN TORPEDOES WWII Hi SMML Pals, I remember in either "Model Boats" or "Marine Modelling International" magazine (UK) did an article on these "Chariots|" back in the late 1990's and a guy was making them using "action men" toy figures dressed using a black rubber glove; they were working models. Anybody known if he is still going? He was also making early subs. Any info out there in SMML land? Thank you for all the replies ref the 172 submarine kits from Japan! GARY MANSFIELD ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 6) From "Bruce Buchner" Subject Good Deals on Resin Ships Last week I was on travel to Southern California so I checked out the local hobby shop. I stopped into Ventura Hobbies in Ventura CA. They were selling off someone's collection of unbuilt resin kits. I purchased four kits myself and made a list of the others that they had. They were selling 1/350 kits for $64.00USD and 1/700 kits for $35.00. I got the Steel Navy HMS Dreadnought, the ISW USS Detroit, the ISW USS Kennebec AO-36 and a Classic Warships USS Alaska. All kits had been opened but appear to be complete and have not been started. They said they would be happy to ship kits and they can be contacted via phone or the website listed below along with the list of remaining kits. Some of these are ones that people on the board have been looking for recently. I have no interest other than being a happy camper on this deal. If you are interested please contact them directly.
