They sell nichrome wire down to "infinitesmal" in their "bare resistance"section. I have no idea what the minimum quantities are as I've never purchased from them, nor can I vouch for their service. But Here they are http//www.pelicanwire.com/ Best of Luck Fritz Koopman ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 2) From Steven P.Allen Subject Angled-deck Essex The last Panda catalog showed two versions in 1/350. Of course, the Panda died, so we won't see the kits from them, but I can only wish that they actually had the tooling more or less developed so that someone else can pick them up. Well, I can wish, can't I? Steve Allen ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 3) From beyondsun@mindspring.com Subject Revell SCB-125 ESSEX Rick, The old Revell angled-deck Essex kit was not "SCB-27" - that was a straight-decked fit; the angled-deck fit was called SCB-125. And yes, I recently saw a modern, Revell-Germany boxing of this kit. IIRC, it was under the name "Bon Homme Richard". Also, the scale of this mold was not 1/570 but 1/540. Cheers, Matty ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 4) From Ken Durling Subject Dragon Essex/Bismarck Hi folks - I've been away from the list - and modeling for that matter - for quite a while. I'm being drawn back in by wanting to do some ship models, and more to the point, by the release of the Dragon CV-9, which I just picked up a copy of. (along with Bismarck). It looks overall like a very nice kit indeed. (Not having any experience with Hasegawa Essexes, I wonder how it compares?) I have a question, though, about the 1944 extended flag bridge. From what I can tell, all Dragon has done is instruct the modeler to omit the forward quad and fill in the hole where it went. Does that truly represent the bridge mod? There are also some mods associated with additional AA, but I'm having trouble discerning from the limited refs I have what the bridge extension really looks like. Has anyone looked into this with this kit? What are the best CV-9 refs out there? We do have CV(S)-12 here in town, so I expect that will come in very handy for some things, but it doesn't help with this. Also, I'm looking for a US distributor for the Voyager PE set for Bismarck - any suggestions? The Voyager site lists Mission Models in LA, I called them and they would have to order it, as they only carry the armor stuff. I'll do that if I have to, but would like to find someone with it in stock. best regards Ken Durling ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 5) From Ken Durling Subject PS Essex flag bridge As a post script, I do have the Floating Drydock's "Camouflage 2 - Fleet Carriers" book, that has a photo on p.14 of the new flag bridge. But I'm not sure what I'm looking at - if one of you has that book and can offer some explanation of that photo, I do have that. Thanks Ken ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 6) From "William B. Smallshaw" Subject Re USS Reluctant I learn something, even as I pass middle age. I did not realize that the ship in Mr. Roberts was an Alamosa class AKA. That being said the Loose Cannon kit is an excellent representation of this class of ship. This class, officially a C1-M-AV1, was designed to move cargo inter island between Japan's shallow water ports. The US Maritime Commission built a large number of these vessels on a high priority starting in 1944 to support the pending invasion of the Japanese home islands. Fortunately these ships were never used for their designed purpose. To get a perspective of this kit feel free to take a look at my effort located on the Loose Cannon web page http//home.earthlink.net/~loosecannonproductions/C1AOG.html My build represents the USS Marengo (AKA 194) as delivered to the US Navy in 1945. This ship was accepted by the Navy but never commissioned, being sold the same day to a private shipping line. The ship sailed in the late summer of 1945 to Cuba as the MV Coastal Spartan. She ended her life as a mobile drilling derrick ship (an interesting conversion option for those with plenty of time on their hands) in the Gulf of Mexico. Palm tree of no palm tree (see David's note on this subject) this is a fabulous little kit. A great change of pace from building those funny looking ships with guns and missiles on them. Bill ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 7) From "dengar" Subject Help Wanted Looking for clear scans of the Soviet Kresta 1 and Kresta 11 Class of ships. Any help would be very appreciated. You can contact me off line Gary ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 8) From "Loren Pike" Subject Question Regarding Dragon Releases I see where Dragon/DML has announced new 1700th A/C Carriers, and I am eagerly awaiting them. On another note, I also would like any news on the following kits that they (Dragon/DML) have announced in 1700th. Those kits are as follows 7026 USS Chandler DDG996 (Fall'05?) 7031 USS A. Radford (DDG) (Fall'05?) 7034 USS Oscar Austin 7036 French Frigate LaFayette 7041 USS Pennsylvania 7042 ? 7045 ? 7046 ? 7048 ? Can anyone "fill in the blanks"? Loren A.
