Michele D'URZO ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 2) From "Michele D'URZO" Subject USS Pueblo / AKL Hello, Bill You are right supposing AKL was a post WW2 series AKL series indeed started on 31 march 1949 when AG-130 USS Camano (ex USAT FS-256) was reclassified AKL-1. For the AKL list and design types, look at http//www.navsource.org/archives/09/14idx.htm Warm regards from Italy (ciao). Michele D'URZO ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 3) From "John Clements" Subject HMS Hood - Flags/Ensigns I am nearing completion of my Heller Hood which is in May 1941 configuration. As this is quite specific, I would like to display the flags that would have been hoisted for her encounter with the German force. Can anyone advise me as to what these would have been and where flown? I don't believe the instructions in the Heller kit, especially as they show the Admiral's flag on the foremast which did not exist at that time, and the White Ensign flown off the stern. I was under the impression that the Ensign was hoisted on a mainmast halyard when in battle, but this may be just hazy sentimentalism. Any help appreciated. John Clements ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 4) From Donsrcships@wmconnect.com Subject Someone looking for 1-350 box's Hey there this is your old Rustbucket, The one that is looking for small cargo box "s and other related goodies, ? If there is a model rail road hobby shop near you, Check them out it. You may fune what you need in N scale,? I use N scale figures when I do a ship in 1/200 scale, Just an idea, DON From Portland, OR That Portland Rustbucket. I hope this idea will help some. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 5) From Steve Singlar Subject Looking for help Greetings, I am looking for help from someone in the Phoenix area who would be willing to repair a model. I will pay for materials. I recently sent a completed model of the 1/700 USS Juneau LPD-10 to a very close friend in Phoenix. Unfortunately, the mast was damaged despite all the efforts to pack it securely. I am looking for someone to repair the mast for my friend (not a model builder). If anyone is interested, please contact me off list. Thanks in advance, Steve Pelham, NH ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 6) From Darren Scannell Subject Re Navy AKL Drawings Paul, This may be a long shot, but I got this response from MARAD in SF last year, >> If you are only interested in looking at ships plans, we do have an amount of them in our office which we would be happy to have you look at if that would help. Please contact me if you would like to arrange that. Captain Frank Johnston Western Region Director 415-744-3125 Frank.Johnston@marad.dot.gov << They obviously get plans for ships that go through there for processing. Couldn't hurt to try and see if they have a set since I'm sure at least one of these ships must have been mothballed by now. Darren ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 7) From M Brown Subject USS Missouri 1945 Anyone know what the colours were for Missouri in 1945 when she was listed as Measure 22? On the Snyder & Short site, Measure 22 is listed as vertical surfaces Navy Blue 5N & Haze Grey 5H, decks 20B. In Alan Raven's articles, there is also listed a 1945 revision being > vertical surfaces from the boot topping up to the lowest point of the main deck 5N Navy Blue, vertical surfaces above the paint line - from the lowest point of main deck up to and including masts, topmasts, and yards 5H Haze Grey. Decks and horizontal surfaces - 20 Deck Grey. Am I right in assuming that the comment that the blue is up to the lowest point of the main deck means that the hull will be two tone blue & grey with a straight demarcation line along it. Regards, Michael Brown ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 8) From "Riemer" Subject USS Pueblo I just happened to be reading Sea Classics Sept.1973, with the full Pueblo background story, when the enquiry was posted. She was one of 7 General Purpose Supply Vessels built for the US Army Transportation Corps; commissioned May 1944 as FP344, later changed to FS344. Transferred to the Navy April 12 1966 (thus post-war), named Pueblo and given the designation AKL44 (Auxiliary Light Cargoship) Riemer Brouwer ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Model club & SMMLcon Information ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 1) From "Paul R.
