It looks awfully thick when you first brush it on, but it levels and thins out beautifully. Brushing it where you want it also avoids turning the entire sheet into one big decal. Does anybody have any information on any other RN Town sailing with this group? According to an ex-officer of HMCS Assiniboine there may have been one more vessel and it wasn't Canadian but it would have been a Town Class destroyer. Thanks for any help. Until now I have failed to locate a body plan (or hull plan) of this ship, showing the frame shapes. << Floating Drydock - HULL-CA35 Hull lines in 1/96. $8.00 You will have to reduce the plan but the info you need is there Simon Scheuer ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 5) From "GRAHAM BOAK" Subject Re N Scale N scale differs UK to US and Europe. Both arguments are right, except the UK uses the term N gauge rather than N scale. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 6) From "John Kutina" Subject WW II USN PGMs If any of you know of a good url source for phots of WW II USN PGMs converted from PCs -- I would appreciate this info. Thank you for any help. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 7) From David L Miller Subject Washes and decals I have only used washes a few times. I think they sometimes bring out too much detail for the scale, especially a black wash. Anyway, washes work best on glossy surfaces. Use a gloss coat before the wash, and then use a dull coat to take the goss down. Disintegrating decals are usually very old and/or have been stored improperly (heat, dry air, sun). You might try to obtain aftermarket decals that are not so old. Failing this, brush on an acrylic clear coat (gloss or dull will work) on the carrier film only. There is also a brush-on "decal saver" coating that is sold, but I think it is just an acrylic clear coat. The important thing to remember is to just put the clearcoat on the decal carrier film and not the whole decal sheet. That is why the spray dullcoat does not work. By the way, my Queen Mary troop ship is coming along nicely! I belong to the local N scale club here in town. << British N Scale is 1/148 USA/Europe/Australia 1/160 Japanese 1/150 Cheers Rob ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 9) From "Tim Perry" Subject Re splintering decals Microscale do a liquid decal varnish called 'Liquid Decal Film'. It works very well on decals that might splinter, but of course you have to paint it on while the decal is still on the paper. Once it has splintered, too late! If the sheet is old, yellow, dried out, then it may well splinter. Try a small scrap bit, the kit code letters or the printers copyright label, before you use the real images. Or coat the decal with the liquid anyway, just to be on the safe side. The liquid is invaluable for making your own decals onto spare bits of decal backing paper too. Paint a patch, let it dry, paint/Letraset/ink/whatever your image onto the patch, over-coat again to seal, then treat like a normal decal. It is very handy if you have an ALPS/OKI/Citizen dry printer, but that, as they say, is another story.... Poses are all a bit stiff, but they looked perfect inside inside the bridge. Have a look at http//www.kipperboxes.co.uk/html/bridge_page_3.html , towards the bottom of the page. They have it in relatively small quantities (though "small" will probably still last you for several years), and the service was excellent. I got the order within 2-3 days of ordering on the internet. And "infinitesimal" it is -- you can hardly even SEE 1 mil nichrome wire. One caution -- it's thin and its strong. If you try to break the 1 mil stuff with your fingers, you will end up with your fingers lying on the bench right next to your Xacto knife. Ever seen an egg slicer at work?
