I don't think I answered your question re casting a 1/350 gun turret. I hope you have some Smooth - On. Step #1 Use a slick cardboard base - like a Lipton tea box side - for both the base and the cardboard containing box - slick sides facing inward. Step #2 Make a five sided strip to staple into a box making sure you exceed the height of the object by at least 2". Step #3 Reverse the turret and see if it has a solid base. If not, use kids regular clay to fill in any holes to make it a solid base. Step 4 Take a round dowel with a diameter exceeding your gun and rubber cement it to the bottom of the gun. It should exceed the the length of the gun barrel enough to pierce the side of the the box. This is to vent the air when you pour the resin mix. Rubber cement the object and box sides to the base. Tamp some clay along the bottom sides of the box to prevent leaks. Step 5 Mix the rubber - each bottle should be mixed separately at least one minute. I use plastic glasses marked carefully to be sure you have a 1 to 1 final mix. Using a vented room [bathroom is good] mix the two rubber components together [using a wooden paint mixer. WEAR PLASTIC GLOVES1 Step 6 Pour the resin mix slowly into one corner and let it seep slowly into the box until it covers the object at least one inch+ over its highest point. Step 7 Let it set overnight then cut one corner and you will be able to unpeel the cardboard box easily if you used a slick sided material facing inwards. Step 8 Turn the finished mold upside down. Working backwards from the dowel cut the rubber across the mold to split it in half. The extra 1 inch plus that you poured over the top of the gun will hold the mold together and even snap it back together if you left enough material over the gun top. When you demold you can easily cut the dowel spree to clean up the gun. The dowel spree is vital to be sure enough material runs into the double cavity to produce a gun. The connection is very thin as you had only slight dowel to gun contact as both are circular. This also works well if you need to cast masts. You may have discovered this by yourself - if not message me with any questions. Regards, John Kutina ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 2) From Donsrcships@wmconnect.com Subject Happy mothers day Happy mothers day to those of that still have them, Sorry to say I lost mind about 10 years ago, Keep in mind If it was not for them none of modelers would here on the boards. We have a lot to thank for our mothers. Just a note to tell you all my Cutter is coming along really nicely, Those of you that don't know what I am building now. Is the USCG Hamilton cutter at 4 ft. Don That Portland ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 3) From John SLATER Subject Re ARK MODELS OF CHINA Be careful with Ark Models. I am a member of the Subcommittee, and when these guys posted new product announcements on our message board, they marketed products to which were direct unauthorised copies of a couple of Sub Vendors in the US. The blatantly admitted the copy! They insisted that they had a legal right to do so. The manufacturers of the original items who are fellow Subcommittee Members made statements that they indeed were not authorised to reproduce anything. It was stated that the Albacore info page on their website was essentially stolen from the legitimate distributor in the US. Bottom line is with there other items - its impossible to tell if they were developed by themselves of moulded off others work. JS.
