Comments, please? Franklyn ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 3) From "Hank Lapa" Subject Saving HORNET Thanks for updated info. I have supported HORNET by membership from the start, but forgot the current status as historic. I wonder about having a 4th 27-Charlie as a museum. HORNET would have been my first choice. Also, I had hoped LEX could be stretched just a bit longer to achieve her 50 years. As if the CABOT fiasco wasn't enough, wasn't it VALLEY FORGE essentially in WW2 fit that stayed around as a test platform for several decades? If anyone gets the chance, find a copy of the 1965 1-hour show about lefe and death of FRANKLIN. No one in any position to make decisions on the fate of historic US Navy ships should be so allowed unless they watch this show first. Hank ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 4) From Darald Bantel Subject Realistic Ice Greetings If you wish to model ice realistically - well - no freezer needed in northern Alberta for most of November to February. Come for a visit and model your ice to your hearts content!! I recently bought a book from Borders called "Captain's Log - New Zealand's Maritime History" by Gavin McLean. Inside the cover it says the 2001 copyright is "Television New Zealand" but the acknowledgements only obliquely mention the production company (Livingstone Productions). Have any SMMLs seen the TV program that presumably goes/ went with this book? A quick flick through seems to indicate that the book is a well illustrated history from the 1850s to the present day, mainly merchant shipping. I will do a full review in due course. Jeff Simpson ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 7) From "Mitsuaki Kubota" Subject 1/144 Yamato and Fujimi website URL Hi Dave and Luca, 1/144 Yamato model is actuary built by "Soar Art Workshops" of Hong Kong, not Fujimi. http//www.soarart.com/ They initially promoted their 1/144 Yamato to Aoshima as agent in Japan. But for some reason, Fujimi became distributing the model. Details of Yamato model can be seen at http//www.soarart.com/catalogue/yamato/ I don't know whether 1/144 Yamato can be purchased in kit format or not. Probably it is better to ask Soar Art than Fujimi. But I'm sorry to say, the images of Soar Art Yamato model show many lacks of details. For example, there can't be seen any non-slip strips on fo'c'sle, gunsight of single 25mm MG. Shieldless triple 25mm MGs are very crude, and catapult and stern crane jib is solid, not truss frames. BTW, Fujimi website address is http//www.fujimimokei.com/ Hope these helps Mitsuaki ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Check out the SMML site for the List Rules, Reviews, Articles, Backissues, Member's models & Reference Pictures at http//smmlonline.com ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- End of Volume
