We finally had to sink her using explosives." From what I understand is that she put up one hell of a fight. Also supposedly the next carrier after the George HW Bush is supposedly to be named America. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 2) From "Glenn and Kelly Neklason" Subject Re USS America As I recall from the local paper here in Hampton Roads, the USS America was battered about for some 20+ days before she was finally sunk by explosive charges in 6,000' of water about 50 miles off the coast. The entire event was conducted in secrecy, so we'll probably never see pictures or a video. It wasn't even reported until a few days after the sinking that she'd been sunk. Glenn ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 3) From andrew jones Subject USS America sinking From an article I read about a month or 2 ago... It was going to be so well guarded that even ex crew members were not even allowed to attend, even those that are now high ranking officials & that only only a select few admirals etc were only allowed to attend..so one would assume that any photo's released would be of little use to the navy..so maybe they might release some very long distance photos or hazing photos for now. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 4) From Rasalingam Subject Model shops in Taipei Guys I would be extremely grateful if anyone on this SMML knows off any model shops in Taiwan (Taipei, Taichung & Tainan) having a reasonable collection of ship kits. Kindly advise. Very many thanks in advance. Regards Ravi ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 5) From Brinksfred@aol.com Subject Schnellboot torpedo tubes for the last six months i've been researching the schnellboot and after pouring over all the acailable information [ six books , two plan sets , prinz eugen and several private sources two problems remain how the air lines to the torpedo tubes were routed and details of the ring mount for the forward 20mm. any help or leads for these would be greatly appreciated. fred ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 6) From JRKutina@webtv.net (John Kutina) Subject USCG Vessel Arrives In Algerian Port http//www.military.com/Content/Printer_Friendly_Version/1,11491,,00.html?str_filename=FL%5Fcguard%5F060705&passfile=FL%5Fcguard%5F060705&page_url=%2FNewsContent%2F0%2C13319%2CFL%5Fcguard%5F060705%2C00%2Ehtml Regards, John Kutina ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 7) From JRKutina@webtv.net (John Kutina) Subject Military.com http//www.military.com/NewsContent/0,13319,FL_bases_051305,00.html Regards, John Kutina ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 8) From "David G" Subject Re Model Expo 2005 >> Will any SMML members be attending this year’s Model Expo at Sandown Racecourse (Melbourne, Victoria) that is being held during the Queen’s Birthday Weekend? If so, this might be a way to put a face to a name. Perhaps we could all agree to wear a name tag or just a stick on tag with the words SMML written on it. Just an idea… << G'day Michael, Yes I'm going but I'm not yet sure what day. I'll be wearing my USS Missouri BB 63 baseball cap, and I have a pony-tail so if you see me come up and say "G'day".
